Anyone actually had a remap done?

Hi, fairly new to the forum and had my Z4 3.0Si for about 3 months now.

I previously owned a 2001 Audi TT 225 running stage 3 remap, custom exhaust and induction kit (289bhp) and whilst I'm in love with the Z4 I am missing the power of the Audi. Looking back through the forum there have been several discussions on the merits (or lack of) gained with a remap / chip tune but I don't recall seeing a post by anyone who has actually bitten the bullet and tried one?

The only mods I've done to date are the clear side repeaters, alloy wheel refurb and a K&N panel filter (the latter making no difference whatsoever).

All the above was compounded today when I took my Brothers new purchase for a spin and found it to be a fair bit nippier than mine - he's just bought a Honda S2000 (was on my original short list along with a Boxter S when I bought the zed!) :x

Any experience / thoughts / advice gratefully received...

Paul :)

Have not done one but your right I believe. There are very little benefits from a remap on a NA engine. Obviously with the TT they can up the boost pressure of the turbo. I had a TT just a standard one mind you. But the zed is in another league IMO pulls better and delivers the power better. And obviously it lighter and rear wheel dive. But I found the TT dull in corners?

Really a s2000 felt that much quicker? The only way to realise any big power gains would be a SC but its at least 5k!!

Any good luck with the power hunt

According to Wikipedia, the most powerful S2000 is just under 250bhp, whereas your 3.0SI is 265PS (~261bhp). The S2000 is a little lighter, but I would have thought they were pretty comparable in terms of performance. They are revvier... perhaps that suits your driving style a little better?

Your zed is quicker than an S2K. But then the grass is always greener....

Not much gains from remapping without a turbo. If you do go ahead, would e interesting to see the results

Thanks for the replies. I should clarify that my Z4 is pre face lift so just 231bhp and yes, the driving experience on the whole is better than the TT, especially into the corners, its coming off one of the many roundabouts on the A27 and putting my right foot the floor is where it wants for more!

Unfortunately can't justify the cost of a SC, will have to change my driving style instead I guess :driving:

Not an Si then I don't think.

I would get it checked over to make sure it's healthy.

It would surprise me if a S2000 felt quicker than even a 231bhp Z4 due to the characteristics of the two engines.

+1 - I'm assuming it's all up to date on servicing and you haven't done anything to change it's breathing (air filters etc all clean and correct)

55 BHP upgrade. Deep pockets needed or just buy an M?

Welcome to the forum!

I had a 2001 ap1 Honda s2k before the z4 and I find the z4 quicker because of low end torque compared to revving up v tec. But the Honda was amazing round corners. Personally the zed ticks more boxes for me.

Have you taken the two sponges out of the air intake sounds amazing if not type that into search bar

One of the members remapped his and made ~245bhp on the rolling road .But you wont get massive punch as you do in remapped tt at around 3k rpm :D

I had both an s2k and I have the z4 2004 3.0i.

They are virtually identical in terms of power, the z4 is suited to short bursts as it has much more torque.

Both are fantastic cars but I prefer the z. Would not go for another 4 cylinder sports car again.

I had a s2k before my car.

My si is definitely quicker.... Especially around town, and off the line as it doeant need to be ragged to 6k to get all the power.

Also in terms of driving around town... You'd never be about to get into vtec as its well about 30mph in first year gear!!

The other problem with the s2k is you look like a prat revving it so high... Not mention in the wet when the vtec kicked in you had to make sure you were going straight, as the lack of traction control would send you sideways!!

That being said... I actually preferred the hooligan nature of my old s2k... The M is really more suitable as a comparison to one.

Do you mean the sound generator mod? That's not the air intake. You don't want to be removing filters from the air intake. Apologies if I have misunderstood.

Its a 3.0SE  You'd think I'd know what car I owned wouldn't you!

Anyway! Previous owner had already done the sound generator mod. There is a garage local to me that will do a re-map for £300 and with a guarantee that if I'm not happy with it they will return the car to stock and refund me the money. Won't be for a couple of weeks but thinking I may give it a go and will post the results. I'm not interested in dynos and printed stats, just whether the car feels any different.

Considering it's same engine as e46 m3 and the fact that I had that mapped...you won't notice heaps.

My m3 was done first by DMS and honestly I noticed litle or nothing. Wasn't until I let Evolve loose did I notice no more flat spots, much better throttle response and dare I say a bit more umphh.

Bear in mind, I had major engine mods and a full ss exhaust with cell cats. If it were not for these I doubt I would have seen the amount I did.

Mine is a face lift 2007 3.0si 265bhp and if you compare the figures with the s2000 the z is quicker from 0-62 and also top end.

Ive had mine re-mapped
