Anyone actually "filling up"?

Fill to bursting point every time... don't understand why you'd want to double up your petrol station visits by only filling half way each time...

I'm on a fuel ration card here in Germany. It only works at ESSO stations. So I always fill up just in case the next ESSO is some distance away or closed. Some parts of Germany are not covered very well by ESSO. BUT. I don't mind as I only pay 65 pence/ 1USD per litre for premium fuel. I'm allowed 200 litres per car per calendar month.

In snowy conditions,I keep a full tank always.Plus 2 bags of ballast in the boot for more weight and just in case I get stuck in the snow you can use the ballast for some traction.
Full to empty then full again usually.

Pretty much 4 fill-ups, one a week - sweet

Usually fill it up. Have to confess I did find myself looking under the car for a leak the other day cos I couldn't believe it was still going :(

Thx for the replies, two things made me ask really.
First I had a car stolen years ago that was on vapours (day before payday) and it ran dry just the other side of town where it was abandoned. Lucky escape, just wished I could have seen their faces
And secondly you know in the movies where someone is giving it six nil down the highway for what seems like a week and a half, how come they never run out of gas ???? Is every stolen car in Hollywood brim full just waiting to be twoc'ed :driving: :driving: :driving:
Just a thought...

I wait until the light comes on, then fill it up!

A bit like me really, never pass a toilet, never trust a fart.

Ah, getting older - all about paying heed to the cues life gives you
A lesson we all learn after the first 'lumpy' fart :o

I'm glad I am still young enough to fart with confidence.

Fully Fill mine up when the light comes on. Fill it in the local garage that sells super unleaded. Get better mpg when using it.

Usually full or at least 25-30 quid each time.. Jus been in the middle east for a few days... 7p a litre or 9pm for "premium"!!

Wow a close call, shame we dont have a hidden fuel pump switch

Yep light on then fill right up, I do 40 miles per day and it the main and only car used every day.

Gone from 1 fill up per week to 3 per month going from the 30i to the 28i doing the same miles.

Cant see the point of half fill, the weight argument is not very convincing with possibly 25kg.

DerbyZ4 im the same, I go to matlock to work from Derby I have grit as ballast and a spade, at least you can spread some grit under the wheels to get moving again. Looking at snow socks this year.
In 10 years I have had the zds last year was the only time I had to work from home a few days. Normally have issues flying back from hols in Nov and March

I have a 25kg bag of sand to carry in winter with a small coal shovel

Fill it up , start thinking about filling up when needle drops below the quarter full mark , dont quite follow this ' stick £20 in' its not actually saving money in any way it just means you are going to standing at a petrol pump sooner

Always fill to half a tank. Don't like carrying unnecessary weight in the tank or in the boot. A top ten tip for getting maximum mpg.
Do you make sure you take a dump before going for a drive as well? :poke:

Remember facial hair is like an extra fiver a year.

hmm. so naked driving now on that has to count for a lot more.

I tend to keep between 1/4 and 1/2 as I only travel 16 miles a day. So better MPG. Long traveling then fill it.
