I have just been quoted a reasonable £40 to smooth & polish out 2 kerb rash marks on one of my alloys. Went to see them this lunchtime and they seemed very professional in my opinion. Just wondered if anybody has used them and did they do a good job before io drop the wheel off this week.

I have read some real horror stories when it comes to alloy wheel refurbishers, this is their website incase your interested:-

Thanks !

HI had a friend who had all 4 wheels refurb by these guys and the results were excellent. He was very happy with results

Hey easty, let us know how it goes if you go ahead with them!

They do a powder coat right? How does that stand up to the alternative? £40 just sounds too good to be true! will be happy if

well they've quoted me £253 to touch up and coat (standard finish, whatever that means) four bare wheels. That excludes any delivery/collection, or tyre removal/refitting.

When looking to get my 108's done I did speak to them and they were very expensive. Everything was also an extra from tyres off, tyres, on, wheel balance, non standard colour, wet paint, etc.

I got the impression they were best suited to the guy driving into the city who wanted them done in a day to OEM spec and pick them up going home for £500 all-in (Brirmingham branch)

I'd want to be very sure what they are doing for £40. Sounds like a quick smooth down of the rash and local area spray in.

Big +1 to that....think I'll have another peek at your wheel posting CJ.

Don't skimp is what I say.

Find a proper wet painter. Powder coaters rush their process.

Great if it's a Mondeo with tatty wheels and you want to move it on, but not so great (imho) if your car is your P&J and you won't be happy unless it's perfect.

My Ellipsoid came back from a franchise and on the face of it, it was ok, but the lacquer orange peel and specs in the base (maybe 5-6 per wheel) pissed me off for the £55 a wheel. I'd prefer to pay £90 per wheel and get glass smooth lacquer and no defects (or only one or two) in the base!

Not everyone wants that, so fine, but I do, so I'd pay more personally, and get a good job done... not a job down to a cost at a reduction in quality to appeal to the wider market!

Steve Edwards in Halifax comes highly recommended. I've seen his work on wheels before and was very impressed... but it's about £90-£100 per wheel if you want tyres on/off and balancing on a 107 type wheel anyway (he goes on size/complexity etc as it's more work to do more complex shaped wheels, more paint etc)

It's kinda painful then, if you have paid ~ £220 after fuel to buy 2nd hand 107's, then paying nigh on £400 for recon & fuel costs etc, then seeing that new 107's from M-style (iirc) are about £850...
And that is BRAND NEW wheels, possibly delivered with tyres fitted too, so zero hassle, just deliver and fit and done.

That said, 108's are so expensive recon becomes lots more viable at that price.

Hmmmm... tis a tough choice. Thinking of doing my 107's myself again, it just really is so much work to do them well without the industrial gear that proper places will use (ie, acid dip baths, bead blasters, paint booths and ovens etc)
