SO, there's blue sky round here and it's supposed to stay this way all day. Anybody planning a hoon around berkshire/wiltshire/hampshire? I'm right on the border of the three

So what's the etymology of the word 'Hoon' then? The only Hoon I was aware of was Geoff Hoon a one time minister for defence. Has he got a Z4 as well?

From the Oxford dictionary

"Definition of hoon in English
hoon
Pronunciation: /huːn/
Australian/NZ informal
noun
a lout or hooligan, especially a young man who drives recklessly:
the whole family was wiped out because some drunken hoon had to drive his car
verb
[no object]
behave in a loutish way, especially by driving recklessly:
she noticed people hooning around Ohariu Valley
Origin:

1930s: of unknown origin"

Said on here tongue in cheek, obviously.

Got to love the examples they give of its use :?:|

Nice one Tom! Every days a schooldays. So, Geoff Hoon doesn't have a Z4 then, unless his avatar disguises it well. Come on Geoff admit it, come out, don't be shy!

Haha, glad to be of service. I don't think I've ever seen the word used to much before until coming on here. ""Geoff" William Hoon is a British politician who served as the Member of Parliament for Ashfield from 1992 to 2010. He is a former Defence Secretary, Transport Secretary, Leader of the House of Commons and Labour Party Chief Whip" <------- would suggest he isn't a fan of a stubby. :driving:

I have been on loads of hoons over the last 10 yrs, Its a word we have been using here in the midlands for years, I have sensibly honed in loads of different cars as well and all where great fun

Nice car Sp3ctre!

Can't believe how quickly you've got this all up and running!

Cheers... really is a shame I wasn't given access to get the old one up and running, but nobody seems to want to do anything about it so I thought I'd give it a shot!

Please feel free to contribute and bring others here, I need all the help I can get to get this place kickin! :D

I bet! Well I'm going to head from mine down through highclere (where downtown abbey is filmed) and over to Thruxton. Go and have a nosey round the track and the karting track and ponder back. About 40 miles or so with the sun.

Yes... all the way down to Fowey in Cornwall, weather's beautiful

Cleaned the car this morning, been out for a wee roof down bimble :D

Just finished the cleaning duties, roof down and away we go. up around goodwood I think. :driving:

Goodwood, aw shucks brings back memories, that's where I learnt to fly in my spotty yoof. Go with Noakes was filming on the racetrack at the time with a Durex sponsored racing car! Guess I can see the connection ref burning rubber

How was the hoon? Thruxton karting track is one of the best I have been to. Anything on the main track today?

Glad you asked. The Karting looked decent, not badly priced either but I just watched for a bit as I was on my own. They had kids on the club track and just 4 guys on the national circuit - I'll be going back there though to have a go!

Thruxton itself was empty today, nothing going on. I was so surprised though - drove straight into the grounds and into the paddock, drove to the back of the pits, parc ferme, and the whole place was completely empty. Not one security guard in sight. No experience days going on either so the caymans were all lined up unattended. All the gates onto the track were open too ... And when I say nobody around, i really mean it. I don't know what would have stopped you from messing about there, I couldn't even see any cameras. But... Superb day out. And then drove back, the a343 is incredible !!!!

Surprised they don't have main gate security! Shame I didn't see this earlier or might have joined you, perhaps a Berkshire meet and 'hoon' is in order, I have noticed there seem to be a few members around here

Yes me too, went straight up the main drive and past the runway, under the track and immediately into the Paddock. Really was odd. Sounds like a plan though, when we get a good day next is anybody's guess though. But yes shame you missed this earlier, it only took a few hours and I don't drive like a nutter so maybe next time? I'm just over near Newbury (Kintbury).

Weather forecast has been promising all week and I work in the west country which is miserable at the moment so yes, of course. :driving:

Explored the B roads around Welwyn Garden City, Harpenden, Hertford and Potters Bar. Fun, but nothing outstanding.

x2, shame I didnt see it. Living in Surrey at present, but lived in Reading until 2 years ago. I'm around Berks often visiting family.

We could always look into a karting session with a drive either side ... Or a drive down that way and plan to watch something at thruxton and grab a bacon butty and a coffee. Could easily get a handful of people along I'm sure

I didn't get to clean mine (had flu), so it had to be 'hooned' dirty, but I did manage to drive to scorchers and back in croydon, top down, enjoying the a roads (wooly hat on). :driving:
