Hello all. Newbie here. So I test drove a used 2007 Z4 3.0si manual convertible. Triple black. Very sharp car. Looking to take over the guy's lease. He has 2 years left. I was a passenger for about 5 minutes and test drove it for about the same amount of time. So here is my dilemma. I'm 6'1". Space inside was rather limited. But that was expected. I have no problem with that. Plus I thought there was enough head room. My problem was leg space. I'm coming from a 335i coupe and I stretched the seats out as much as I can. That was with any car I owned. With the Z4, I was maxed out and I felt my legs were a little crimped. Perhaps too close for comfort. This is the only reason holding me back from saying yes. But maybe it's something I need to get used to. Perhaps I'm a little spoiled since I had guys as tall as me pull the seat closer when driving my car. Any 6 footers out there that felt the same?

I'm 6'3" and have no problem. It just depends on your proportions. It's a roadster, so the spaces are tight to begin with. I've heard it described as not so much getting in the car, more like putting the car on. I went from a full size pickup to the Z4 and never looked back. I love this car, but maybe you should spend a bit more time driving it before you decide. On a side note I tried many sports car before settling on the Zed. It felt the best for me.

Thanks for the responses. I figure it is something I can get used to from lackadaisical driving habits. I wasn't uncomfortable. Just a little tight. Other than that, the car is awesome. My first convertible too. Looks like I will be pulling the trigger on Monday.

On a side note. Coming from a 335i coupe, I believe I won't be losing much on the power end. As a matter of fact, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the acceleration stats on a Z4 3.0si stick vs. 335i practically mirrored each other.

Not only is the “putting it on” an accurate statement for tall people but for some of us that are a little chubby so to speak. Moving between my Mercedes and the Cadillac to the Zed was kind of a strange experience, but once I got used to being an integral part of the vehicle, controlling it not simply passively lounging in my chair, I really like it. :) I see guys and gals all the time with their seat tilted all the way back, arms extended in a semi-bed position and wonder how in the heck they can control a powerful car in such a fashion. I have never seen a professional driver do that. So yes, you will feel a little more confined but I think in a good way. :driving:

Heh not that i'm tall, but I've found I've started setting the seat more and more upright for the proper "racing" position. IMO makes driving the car way more fun. Oddly enough seems way more comfortable too.

im 6' 4'' i find it i snug fit ive come from a 330 coupe so at first it was tight but im use to it now i do wonder if i stick out of it a bit to much when the roof is down but i dont care. It just puts more wind threw my thinning hair 8)

I am 6.1 and had a Mercedes E class before the Z4. I found it a bit of a different driving style but find it has plenty of room now i am used to it. I love it now and wished I had made the move ages ago. :D

comebackid - are you sure that your driving position is correct? There should be a bend in your left knee when the clutch is fully pressed in and there should be a bend in your elbows when you place your hands at the 12 o'clock position on the steering.... There also should be a around a 4 inch gap between your head and the roof - they say that you should be able to put a fist between your head and the roof. Try that and tell us if the Z4 is too small for you....

All the best!!

im 6 1 and i find the driving positin excellent - as i am sure with the usa version the zed has 4 positional adjustments - i have the seat as low as possible, the seat reclined quite a way and it is very comfortable for me.

The more I read your responses, the more I realize that there is a more ideal seat position that takes getting used to. As I mentioned earlier, I only drove it for less than 5 minutes and I didn't spend too much time adjusting the seat. I just lowered it and moved it back. Perhaps the back support was too angled and should have been adjusted more straight. Then I could move it back further?
