Anybody fitted mesh kidney grills

Anybody fitted mesh kidney grills, either chrome or black? Just wondered how they look and fitted. Photos please :thumbsup:

It's surprising to me that the Zunsport website doesn't show any of their mesh grilles in black. Whilst I wouldn't do it on mine, I think that black mesh on a black, grey or silver Zed may look good. (IMO the silver mesh looks aweful!)

They first gave this a s**t years ago- think they used cj's car as a test gut from what I remember. Suspect they've only sold a few so no point in exploring the idea further. (Thankfully imho)

Funny - you meant to write 'shot' but typed it just how you were thinking about the grills.... and got censored by the 'bots :rofl:
 
I don't like them in the pic above but I've thought about fitting some behind the standard grill in black or something. Would still let air through and more importantly still push air to the R (not so PI) scoop but stop the possibility of stone damage to the rad or going into the air box.

I agree, I would only fit them if they were black mesh.

Might even black out the chrome outer ring?
 
I wouldn't put mesh in, you'll noticeably hamper air flow. Guy Martin pulled some mesh off his van built for a high speed race and that alone solved the lack of cooling issue...

Yeah but that was a 200mph transit. I know the zed is a sports car but she's not quite in that league. I would also get the mesh that's little diamond shaped style rather than the one with holes in. This wouldn't restrict the flow as much.
 
I fitted some black diamond mesh behind my black grills. I thought it looked good as I didn't like seeing the gap to the radiator from the grill.

It looked good but I only fastened it with gorilla tape and the mesh got loose so I removed and never put back.

On the temperature issue. There is a noticeable difference in the speed the engine got to the correct oil temp. Without the mesh it takes approx 10 miles below 3k rpm and with the mesh fitted it took just over 6 miles so quite a difference. I had the mesh fitted for about a month and the temp never went so high I was worried.

I would fit them again (they are in the garage) but would need to use a better fixing solution.
