Anybody done a diy at home using wet and dry, metal filler etc on the 108 split rims?

I'm doing a set at the moment with tips from Mr wilks, I have spent £20 on rattle can's and will then do them in the dark with a bag over my head. This is a tried and tested way apparently

Am tempted to do mine once I get my CSL reps, to recoup some of the cost lol..

Haha the Op on that thread was planning to do them whilst bolted together at least you have your set apart & if you have the time & the skills no reason why you won't have a decent end product for a while :wink:

Work in progress at the moment. These were going on my car, but now have 107's on it. I will probably sell the 108's once done.

I can imagine the mating area between the two pieces to be a b'stard of a water trap, and with the slight flexing that takes place, with subsequent corrosion following shortly afterwards..

Well worth trying a thin bead of clear silicone sealant in there.

Ive taken a couple of sets apart that have obviously had a silicone bead & imo it could actually make the problem worse
Without it any water sitting between rim & star can effectively escape but if you apply a silicone bead any water that does get in is virtually trapped

Hope lepsons have a decent method to avoid them messing up too soon.

My refurb plan will be silver rim and slightly darker stars to give a similar contrast but without the risk. Unless yours lasts!
