Looking to switch the golf & TBH been going round in circles for 6/8 weeks with various different vehicles & budget in mind .
Apart from the kick in the back from the torque / my remap man says 270bhp is no problem :) :driving: :) what are your experiences if any with this BMW 3.0 diesel ?
Btw , the auto version :P

I had the older version of that in my E53, excellent engine and great performance. Goes indeed very well with the auto box :poke:

Had our old e90 330d m sport auto 2006 model for six years from 3 months old on 3k miles & took it to 154k miles & it was completely faultless & it was easily one of our favourite cars we have owned, it's such a great allrounder & all the car you really need imho.

The auto suited 369ft/ib of torque & it returned 43/44 mpg, the engine comes highly recommended from me & we still miss it now, plus the touring only adds to the practicality. :)

My mum has one.. Driven it a few times, and its damn fast, probably faster then my Z.

The engine sounds like a tractor from outside, but cant tell from inside.

She's had it since new, under 20k moles and has had 3 fault:

Steering issue: fixed under goodwill( but paying for odd bits and pieces) cost over 2k.

Glow plugs: engine kept cutting out.

Radar cruise: Stopped working, and when it stops the cruise just doesnt work.... Think it happened after she bumped her bumper.. But randomly started working after a service!

I had a 330d coupe (E92) before the 5 series. Brilliant car, amazing mid-range. If you go for auto, make sure you get the paddle shift option - makes for a much better driving experience.

Also, expect fuel consumption in the 40s, pretty good.

Thanks all for the input fellas , all opinion is appreciated
got one to look at one afternoon this week depending if i can sneak away from work early
Criteria for vehicle is town/shopping/pick-up+drop off daughter + friends car for mrs w for the majority of its life with a south of france trip in june & at least 3 other france jaunts this year where i would like some fizz under foot . .
have looked at a 9-3 diesel / a4 avant ( multitronic put me off) & today a passat tdi dsg 140 ( underspecced to say the least)
let's hope the oil burning 3 tourer hits the mark

It is the best /fastest diesel around, you won't regret it .

Well i wasn't disappointed with the car or the way it drove . actually thought the engine noise from the cabin when under throttle sounded pretty throaty ? & mid range from 30/80mph was blurring if you pushed hard , plus the seller was a fantastic bloke , spent an hour with him before a 2hour jaunt home on the yorkshire M62
so deal done & deposit down but a few hurdles to get over before i / mrs w  can collect .
namely / its taxed to a disabled person
its got a private plate on
the seller has some finance outstanding
any pointers on the above ?

Great news mr wilks  you wont be disappointed, sorry cant help with your questions, great choice of motor :)

Tax - no prob, you can tax it fine.
Private plate - major headache as it takes weeks to sort.
Finance - you need the release letter from the finance company

Not so. If you go to the DVLA office with the V5 and a plate retention document filled in by both parties, then the V5 will go to the new owner and the plate will go onto retention with the retention document returning to thr original keeper.

All you need is for the new keeper to post your plates back once they've got the V5.

Takes up to 6 weeks, I have done exactly that. The allocation of the new number takes the time.

Edited to say - if you get the car with the private plates in your description of events, you (the new owner) are the legal owner of the plate and you do not have to send them back if you want to be awkward. I would never give my car with my plates on it and hope the new owner returns the document.
