Any thoughts on this up for sale?

Hi All

Just started looking for a z4 35 and I found this:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201910243654253?advertising-location=at_cars&postcode=mk438re&model=Z4&sort=price-asc&page=1&aggregatedTrim=35i&make=BMW&onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=Used

I really don't know much about them but I have read on this forum about having a warranty is a good idea. It states a full BMW service history so hopefully that entitles me to purchase a BMW warranty.

So can anyone comment on the car up for sale.... It looks good to me. Red seats might not be for everyone but I'm not that fussed. Decent mileage, condition looks good and is affordable.

Thanks in advance

I don't know much about E89s, but that looks like a lot of car for the money to me - especially with such low mileage.

And I love that red interior.

Hopefully someone more familiar with these models will be able to offer some advice!

Don’t let the interior colour put you off, Coral Red always looks brighter in picks than it actually is. Reasonable money for the mileage but doesn’t look like it’s particularly well specked. The manual 35i is a dream to drive and don’t come up that often, there seem to be more autos.

Do plenty of research and don’t jump at the first car you see unless it ticks all your boxes.

I love the colour combo.. looks like a good buy with very low mileage...
Check it out on https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

I have an E89 3.5is which I love. This looks like a decent car at a fair price considering the mileage. The colour combination is a good one too. If you like it go and have a look at it and drive it. If possible take along someone who knows a bit about this model or invest in an engineers report. Mine is an auto and suits me fine but if you prefer manual there aren’t many about. Good luck with your search. If you are patient I’m sure you will find a great car. Mine puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

For me much of the appeal is that it is a manual car, which seems a pretty rare feature in E89 35s given that there were never any manual 35iss.

I suppose it just depends if the OP really wants a manual!

One thing that spoils my car is the notchy manual box. I would try both a manual and auto if i had a choice again.

Space grey with coral red interior was my first choice when I was looking for my car but I end up getting my second choice LOL it is a stunning combination much better than a boring black interior :P The car seems pretty well specced only missing the idrive and price seems fair to me. If you want a manual and not fussed about the sat nav / idrive I would go take a look at it.

I have somehow always found that BMW's especially with the larger engine just seem to be better suited to the auto / DCT gearboxes, same with Mercs!

This is my dream Z but they were not sold in the US. We have an auto 35is with DCT only. A manual was a must for me... So yes - I would investigate the carfax and service history. If no red flags I'd jump on this if you are a driver. 2010 idrive is not much to give up.

Looks good to me. Make sure you start it from cold and it idles cleanly (reveals leaking injectors). Check inside of alloys for cracking (very common on those wheels, particularly if it’s still on crappy runflats)

Thanks for all the replies guys, appreciate everyones thoughts.

Perhaps I'm not fussy enough as I don't have very strong views on having the auto or manual - infact I've never had an auto so perhaps that's the reason I've never considered one.

I like the colour and general look of it, it's low mileage, it's a decent price I was just worried it would cripple me financially if it starts going wrong hence the BMW warranty idea.

I was considering an AA/RAC inspection and I see they place an RAC warranty on it so perhaps it's worth doing some investigation how thorough they are and what they check.

It's a nice looking car but the lack of i-drive would put me off. You may not be that bothered by it but a lot of people looking at a top of the range car will be and it will be harder to sell on/worth less at trade in.

On the contrary I find iDrive to be very good, the sat nav is very good with updated maps, it got me from London to Malaga without a hitch! plus has that pictogram for the parking sensors! plus lots of other things that would be tedious to look at on the tiny display of the radio or in the instrument cluster. In addition as someone else has pointed out it helps when it comes to resell the car both the ease to sell it and the value.

Your link to the add has expired.
If it helps I bought a 35i fully spec (heated stg wheel, auto dim lights idrive etc etc on 24000 miles in Carmine red with DCT box.
Completely unmarked with full history and annual BMW inspection for £13k 6 months ago!

Good low mileage cars are out there so keep your cash for the right one, no rush its winter..

Thanks for the price comparison. I enquired and was informed he had taken a deposit. Will keep looking.

Thanks all
