Any thoughts on these 2

I've just joined and haven't even driven a Z4 yet ,so I'm off to look at the attached http://www.cargiant.co.uk/BMW/Z4/results-BMW-Z4.asp, the blue soft top and the Coupe, will see if I can have a test in both .

Never really wanted to buy a car from Car Giant ,and not even sure if either represent good value ....any ideas on how prices are at the moment ?

I'm edging towards 5 yr old car ( would this be a face lift model .... is that post 2006 ) could anyone tell me what the differences are between the pre 2006 and post 2006 models are ? I'm excluding the latest 2009 version as they'd be too expensive for me.

Engine wise probably go for a 3 ltr, and really torn between a Coupe and soft top ,whats the essentials to have ?

Thanks in advance for any comments

hello and welcome

you will get for and against arguments between the coupe and the roadster, if its looks your after then clearly the coupe is the 1 to go for

some say they don't want the automatic because a sports car should be manual, I have the auto and think its awesome

the choice is yours, but any 3.0ltr zed will be good

Hi and welcome John.
I went to CarGiant and tested 3 Z's but wasn't happy with the no quibble and no guarantee issues. It was a great way to drive a few different options tho.....I realised that I didn't need the power of a 3.0. Value wise CarGiant are clearly quite cheap....but you get very little piece-of-mind from them and with my complete lack of no-how I simply wasn't prepared to take the risk of buying a dud. I also noted that most of the ZRs continually had kids in them opening and lowering the hoods!!!
Pre facelifts have orange front indicators and roundish rear light clusters (+ a whole heap of other less obvious but more important :fuelfire: stuff like slightly better roof-motor insulations).
As for the coupe  roadster  query, I'm slightly biased!! Goodluck.

Love the Blue/Black leather seats on that 2.5.
As far as essentials go. I had to have SatNAv,Carver stereo,M Seats,Auto Box. I was lucky to find mine on here in the Buy and Sell forum. I probably paid over the odds for it but it was well looked after and had everything I wanted. Even though I had recent problems with the car, there has never been a day where I've regretted the purchase. If I'd compromised on the spec then I may well have done. Make sure that the car you settle on has everything you want and be prepared to walk away from ones that haven't. For me the spec is as important as the FSH and condition of the car.
Go get your Roadster and enjoy. :driving:

Thanks for the advice ,just seen the recent post on here in the for sale section for a Z4M,now that would be handy for going around Hammersmith Broadway in !.......sadly more than I could afford ( or handle !)

I've seen quiet a lot of mention of M tech,I assume this is a reference to the cars having extra sport accessories ,like steering wheels, seats, (anything else ?)

So my ideal would be:
Coupe 3 ltr
Manual or auto
M tech accessories
good set of wheels/tyres (imho the wheels do more to make the car look great than any other single thing )
below 30/40 k miles
sat nav ( altho never bothered with it before ,so not a big thing for me )
heated seats,
decent sound system ,although not that bothered about this as I'd want to use i pod ,
blue tooth,
service history with BMW or independent specialist,
model year between 2006 face lift and 2009

any suggestions as to other essential bits of kit ........please fire away !

Is there any engine more reliable than the rest ,would I be able to tell the difference between the 3 ltr and the 2.5 in normal/everyday driving ,by this I mean the occasional drive up to Newcastle and Manchester, but in the main driving around West London at average speed of 15 mph !! ( Ive just sold my Defender so that's quick )

and ......how much would a car as described above have cost new and what would it cost me now ?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Good luck with your search and with either the coupe or roadster you will be more than happy I'm sure.

Can't help but notice that my car seems to fit your criteria spot on, unfortunately it's not for sale

Cheers

JDM

 you tease. Unless secretly you still want a roadster back in your life :poke:

Welcome johnlondonw3,

I had the same dilema but as a friend said to me "if your going for an impracticle two seater then why not go the whole hog and get the roadster". I do prefer the sloping roof of the coupe but i know i would have regretted it if i bought one. No offence Z4C owners  . The car doesnt feel the same with the roof up and all i long for is the sun to come out so i can show off my red interior. :driving:

JDM ......thats a great looking car ,is it blue ? ......well let me know when you want to sell it !

Just got back from driving the grey Coupe, unfortunately I was only able to drive it around the factory estate ,but was able to get some impression of the cars potential ...it was also an automatic ,with paddle shift on the steering wheel,it'd only done 24,000 miles ,and had been previously owned by someone in North London,so the low mileage makes sense....trouble was no service records .....anyway first drive .....just need to keep searching ...I'm in no rush

My car fits your criteria except the miles but ive only done 4,000 miles since i've owned it for a year.

Thanks johnlondonw3. My car is black sapphire, its just the photo that makes it look a little blueish now you mention it... Unfortunately I dont think it will be up for sale anytime soon, im too in love with it :D.
Ive had two previous Z4 roadsters and never felt like this about any of them.. Guess that shows you how the coupe compares to the roadster.... well in my eyes anyway
