Any special options to look out for?

With a fair wind and a bit of luck - and no push-back from the good lady - I’m gonna be in the market for a Z4 3.0 manual roadster pre or facelift, and have a question.

What options should I be looking out for that would be classed as a total result/rare find, or is it much if a muchness? If I ever replace my estate with another estate the one option I’d want included this time would be the auto tail gate - it irks me that someone specked literally ever option but this one.

Thanks.

Definitely an auto tailgate; that would be a VERY rare find

Most Roadster owners reckon heated seats are top of the list to extend the roof-down season. To be fair I found them quite handy in my Coupe last week.

Bi-Xenons are also pretty desirable as the standard Halogen headlights aren't that illuminating.!

M-Sport seats are very desirable as used pairs can fetch up to £1,000. They were an option on pre-facelifts and facelift SEs, but were standard on facelift Sport models.

The upgraded stereo is much better than the standard offering, but although mine has it I don't use it much because the engine provides a great sound-track. :D

Rear parking sensors are handy even if the back of the car isn't far away. Multi-Function Steering Wheel is also useful although I didn't miss it much on my first two Z4s.

Cruise control is useful if you live near roads with average speed cameras but is a fairly easy retro-fit, as are cup-holders.

I'm pretty sure all 3 litres had electric seat adjustment with driver's memory as standard.

Rare finds are probably BMW Individual options like Ruby Black paint, Syrah Blue, Amarone or Bi-colour leather seats.

Happy hunting and good luck avoiding push-back.

Heated Sports seats absolutely top of the list.

Extended leather is ok but not an essential. :)

Folding wing mirrors can be handy, Not auto dimming though as the glass will apparently cost more than the seats to replace, should it break. Very rare though.

Original sat nav absolutely bottom of the list. Tis tosh and the flip up screen dates the dash, as well as being annoying after the five minutes of novelty were off.

Ruby black paint looks great.

Heated seats, ideally as I’ve been spoiled over the years. Xenon’s less bothered as night driving will be limited.
MSport seats would be cool and MF steering wheel. It I could live with a lesser stereo.

Yep saw that post. Sheesh.
I don’t use sat nav in my more modern car so deffo not bothered with it here. Heated seats are near essential to me know but I could go without if everything else was bob on.

also, those dimmable side mirrors delivered by oiled-up nubile waifs are to be be avoided if you wish to keep your marriage intact - the oil stains are difficult to explain

Auto dimming mirrors are rare.......but my god is the glass expensive. I need to replace mine, no doubt they won't be auto dimming when that's done!
Also alpine White I believe is a rarity.

There were complaints on the E46 M3 forums about its very similar style folding mirrors because apparently when folded they act like a cup (because they fold up not sideways) and drown the electric motors in water when it rains - locking the mirrors in the folded up position. So not the best option if you want folding mirrors outdoors.

Not overly bothered about folding mirrors. Any car since my 1991 MR2 hasn’t had them anyway; including my fully loaded end of the line Passat.

Never left her parked with the wing mirrors up. Occasionally it's good to be able to steal that extra inch. But not always. I once caught my off side side indicator on the garage door frame, because I had the wing mirrors up driving in.

Ouch

Just bought a new one off flea bay. Cheap as chips. Had to swap the BMW roundal out of the old one though. That was another £40, if I had bought new. Total scam.

I have the folding mirrors and always park the car with them folded, had the car 6 years and live in Scotland so 90% of the time its raining and I have never had any issues whatsoever

Personally I sought the highest possible spec but there are a few things I just couldnt go without
Cruise control
Sport seats
Heated seats
Cup holders
Auto dimming RVM

Cruise control has never been a priority but heated seats are an amazing feature I’d always love to have.

As a daily it was important for me and now having lived with it its one of those things I use regularly through laziness

I get it. But because of the really poor driving behaviours on the motorways I seldom use, I find cruise control gets tedious - though I’ve not used the new laser guided type.

I only use cruise because there are so many roads in the South East with average speed cameras. :(
