Sorry meant to say the black wheel up against my car didn't work which is why the thought of the gunmetal shadow was thought of. That said my car is really a dark blue rather than black in most lights.

I am so unsure that even hyper silver is still in the mix as a safe option. :(
 
Following this with interest as a possible future project. Always hard to tell what works on a black car unless you can see examples. In other words, always better if you can see the results without taking the risks.
 
Hello all and at the possibility of boring everyone I have another option in the mix now.

Only thing decided is it must be 18" as the 19" are an inferior ride and aren't as good to drive ( whole point of having a car like this ). My opinion only which is why started down the route of a refurb on the 224's.

Really wanted CSL's (only 19") and obviously haven't quite given up on this and have found this rep wheel in 18". E bay no 221406373667 ( shown in black but can be silver)

This would mean I could keep my winter rubber on the 224 and have my Summer rubber on the new reps. They are not as concave on the rear as the 19" but still have that difference between front and rear. Don't know how they would look.

What do folk think?

Any pictures with Zeds on Csl style 18"?

I think this is what I want to do now if the sizes work. I will need to find this out and get confirmation.
 
Why don't you try BBS CH r rims? I'd feel happier on a decent rim then a cheap rep. Fake CSL wheels look fake especially in 18''. Honestly I wouldn't do it.
 
They look nothing like CSL where the spokes close slightly although I take your point about using reps.

I know that the CSL wheel only ever came in 19" but I am sure someone on here had an 18" version but I can't remember who. Want to see if I can see picture, check offsets etc with the Mr Wilks ( wheel expert) and then do it I think.

I really don't think an 18" CSL rep would look any good especially on an MC.
IMO stick with 224's or go CSL/ CSL reps with correct size and offsets.
 
The size of the wheel are as follows

18 x 8j. ET 34. Would look good I think I think.

18 x 8.5j ET37. Again I think offset looks good.

Only point is the 8.5j on the back. Would 255 be okay for this width wheel? What would the maximum width of tyre to be safe?

Anybody knowledgable on or even better Mr Wilks?

Another option are Zito 935. These look better width wise

18x8.5. ET35
18x9.5. ET20

I think the offsets look good as well but would like someone else to confirm if possible.

Good qaulity reps from bmautosport with correct offset in 18" would look good. My old e86 wityh 18" Csl reps looked good imo
 
Thanks for the reply Kermit. I think they will look spot on as well. After spending more time looking online you can get the correct width of wheel in 18" and it is a matter of getting the correct offset. Looking at my 224 both can come out a little.

I just need to be patient and get it right.

Have sent messages to a few dealers BMautosport being one so I can wait and see what comes back. :)

Yeah those look fine on your car and nothing against reps, just IMO a Z4M should have CSL's/ reps with correct CSL offsets (concave) or 224's.
The 224's look great with H&R/ Eibach springs and 10mm spacers.

 
Yours look great lost boy but I just want the ride to be as good as it can be and the 19" don't do it. When I get them I will post some pics. :D
 
Can someone confirm to me the correct offset for the front and back wheels 8.5 and 9.5 wide for a Z4M

I can get a set with an ET 37 front and back.

Can someone please confirm that this will mean the fronts will be 5mm further out for the offset plus half the extra width 6mm (11mm total) compared to the 224 on the front and -7mm for the offset plus half the extra width 6mm (-1mm total) on the rear.

I am pretty sure this is how it works but would like some confirmation if possible.

I don't think the width effects the offset like you're calculating. The extra width just goes to the inside edge.
 
I thought the offset of each wheel was calulated from the centre of the wheel. So if the the wheel was 12mm ( 0.5 inch) wider the outside and inside edge would be 6 MM. further out and in for the same offset.

It's the way it looks on the diagrams on the internet but I could very well be wrong.

Anyone know for certain?
 
Yeah, you're spot on with the offset work. Worth noting that the rear will have a good 12/13mm less clearance to the shock-not sure it will be an issue but i have no idea how much space there is.

Not sure the rear fitment of those will be particularly complimentary to the front though. It would be like sticking spacers on the front and not the rear. Could always put a spacer on the rear to balance things out though.

Fwiw, and i'm sure i've said this before on here, the best riding Z4m I drove had CSL wheels and Michelin tyres. Different cars, different days and different roads but still, i was surprised and it goes to show how much weight and tyre construction play in the ride comfort stakes. In fact, i wouldn't mind betting a heavy 18" wheel and stiff tyre could ride worse than a light 19" with a compliant tyre.
 
Thanks for the confirmation on the offers and looking at my car I think it would look okay. None of the 18 wheels are an exact mini CSL and are all slightly different which I am having a problem with.

I do like the original size CSL and maybe your point regarding your experience of ride should be taken.

My head has been full of numbers and figures for weeks!!!!

I don't know which way to go at all! :headbang:
 
I'm running CSL reps with OEM sizes on a none M car, I like the deep rear wheel. 19" is deff the was to go :)

 
Just got my car back from the refurbisher - I went for jet black and it looks absolutely awesome! Excuse the p*ss poor quality photos which do the look no favours but i'll get some better ones up in the gallery when she has had a good wash and the sun is shining!

I got very bored of the impact of the genuine CSLs on ride quality and handling hence it was a no-no with the new car!
