any SATNAV guru's? Problem upgrading Firmware

Hi,

I just purchased a 2006 E85 which was still running 2006 NAV firmware (SW 4-1/60), I attempted to upgrade the firmware to STOCK v32 and to v32.2 (the modified version). Strangely enough I am running into an error with both versions!

After inserting either OS update disk (burned using lowest speed etc), the car thinks about it for a moment, very briefly displays the languages it tries to install? Followed by language is not available. After this, the satnav does not boot up any more and the display remains black. (radio still works, even though it does not display it on screen) When reinserting either update disc, it only turns on, to advise the same message as before.

The satnav + display was functioning fully before the attempted upgrade, and also does turn on when starting these 'failed' upgrades. Hence, I think it is not a hardware issue. But most likely a software/firmware issue.

Any ideas, how I can upgrade succesfully, and get the system functioning again, are of course welcome!

Just to be clear, I am not asking about 'illegal' map updates, also I did try to find a historic solution, however it has proven to be quite difficult considering it is a legacy nav system.

Pictures added for reference, Thanks in advance!

p.s. The car is not in transport mode
p.p.s. As far as I can tell the mentioned languages are in both OS firmware cd's.

Update:
I have now been able to install stock OS v29. and the satnav+ display etc is fully functional.
I am still unable to install to v32 as the same error as above pops up.

Could anyone confirm the standard UK languages under the settings tab? Photo added below of mine. Seems non-standard having GB as an option 2x.
Would I need to get this recoded to GB D F (for example)
Or is there a known work-around to get v32 update to go through? (the only language I need would be GB).

Thanks

My suggestion was to revert to stock, but you tried that. Having now done so it’s clearly either a corrupt file or not burnt well to disc

I’d download and burn again to a different make of disc.

I updated dozens of times as I used to hack the software and add images, other functions, etc and issues were always burning the disc.

I'm definitely not a guru and haven't messed about with updating my sat nav yet, but I can compare settings for you against mine if it helps you out. The settings highlighted in orange are obviously the active settings so It does seem strange to have 2 highlighted here's my settings screen.
Anything you want compared let me know and I'll try and help.

StuCracker and cj10jeeper,

Thanks for the replies, I thought the languages tab was a bit strange! And am still quite confused how and why! (and if this in any way affects the updating)

I've tried 3 different burns of v32 (modded and stock) all to no avail on Philips branded discs.

First try of v29 did work, next step will be to try to source v31 and burn to the same brand of disc. Unfortunately I will be unable to pickup some verbatim discs in the next few days. But is next on the list!

Would it be worth trying a reset of the sat nav to see if it sorts out the language setting? (That's assuming having 2 GB's highlighted is a problem) and then try the lowest version you've already got.

Just gone out of my way to overpay for some verbatim discs at the post office, will retry v32 shortly.

If unsuccessful, I'll yank the satnav fuse and see if that might scare the Nav into behaving

Download the V32 from the web and try again. Eliminate 1 issue at a time

I've retried, and also have burned on verbatim cd-r discs, same result unfortunately. For what it's worth also cleaned the burner lens

Unfortunately pulling fuse 49 did not make a difference.

The facts so far: V29 works.
V32 installation fails due to: A language you've selected is not available. (the screen shortly before shows GB,F,D)
Under Settings: I have a non-standard language selection, showing GB 2x and only German as another language.
I think my next step will be to try v30 or v31 (if I can find them) to see if the same problem is apparent. And from there, decide if recoding the nav languages at the dealer to GB F D might be the next step? Unless anyone else has a solution?? :D

Tiny update; I have been unable to source v30 or v31 so far, many of the old mirrors no longer host, or complete websites have disappeared.
I retried a few different uploads of v32 which all supplied the same error. (tried 7 different burns, on different discs, programs etc.)
By way of exclusion, I tried v27, which installed with no error on the first try.

Conclusion, my nav system is for whatever reason happy with software 29 or lower. (unable to try 30/31) and very unhappy with v32 (stock or modified). I'm lost :headbang:

as you have a weird language list, you can perhaps try to select D
to switch your satnav to german
and then try to update the sofware

Good idea, I'll try that next!
Thanks for supplying me with v30+v31. Will report back when I have a chance to burn and try those versions!

i upgraded mine to bmws official one then switched to the modified v32

so languages now say somet like

speed camera warnings off /on

both do sat nav in english, but the bluetooth menu on sceen on speed cameras on, its in english, but if you set cameras to off, the bluetooth "connecting" messages are in gawd knows what

Another small update;
V31 has same result as V32, error during installation phase with regards to the language.
V30 installs without problems, so far this is the latest version I have been able to install (SW 4-1/91)

Selecting D (german) from the settings menu, had no effect on the upgrade software, as the installation still happened in English.
The mystery continues..

To me it seems a certainty that it is the burn or type of dvd used that is the issue. Given you can install the old os means that the dvd system works correctly. Since you have tried various versions and several burns the new files are unlikely corrupt.
I therefore have to point to a burn or cd error that causes a fail at the same odd point

Thanks again for your comment, even though all burns have been verified by the applicable program. I shall in the next few days verify the files/structure etc and try to rule out any faults on that side.

Hoping that anyone has navcoder experience, I'm still working on this issue. Could anyone confirm whether the 'normal' selection under navcoder-code-navigation-other settings is [Radio always fullscreen] OR [Radio splitscreen enabled]

Currently navcoder reads my system as being set to the first option. However to me it seems a lot more sensible that (since we can select splitscreen) it should be coded to the latter option.

Just asking someone who maybe knows more about this, than I, before I hit the code button and possibly turn my system into a brick (if that could even happen with this setting)?

Recoding to splitscreen enabled made no difference.
I emailed Jochen (guy who made the navcoder program), he thinks it might be faulty flash ram in the mk4 unit. So when I get time, I'll try to confirm this with inpa or by other means.

Strangely enough running normal tests, no fault are found, so if it is faulty flash ram, it must be subtle.

As the unit works perfectly other than the same faults as before.. :headbang:

you could update to the waze theme !!!!
