I dont mind the stock stereo and don't like the facia adaptor for aftermarket - just my opinion....

but that radio looks nice

think unleash1 has some piccies of his setup...

good post, I like to see these pictures also. I am not impressed with the BMW business stereo, in fact I think its crap IMO. I test drove an Audi A3, it had a concert stereo and OMG it was awesome, absolutely amazing!

i have put a pioneer 8100bt head unit in my z,it has built in parrot bluetooth for phones and also streams music thro it too.i gotta say that after fitting it,it really shows how poor the standard stereo is.def worth the change imo.26042010052.jpg 26042010054.jpg

may I go ever so slightly off topic for a minute, Is it possible to transfer cd's onto an ipod?
isn't that what ipods were invented for? :crazydude:

I really like the look of that Clarion by the way, just the facia would ruin any non OEM look I think :(

lol, OK OK, I know I am a complete dullard with these issues, I really am getting old!!

to get a CD onto an ipod you 'rip' the CD onto your PC (to get it into electronic form like mp3 etc) then load that onto your ipod.

Any pics that are not straight on?
As far as I've seen, all replacement head units stick out from the dash far too much... I do like the look of that clarion though, very sleek

I cant believe i dont have any more pics of mine but here goes....

I will get a JL 10W6V2 in there at some point.

What do people think of the Alpine bluetooth/ipod compatible head units? Thinking of either getting one of them or a Parrott Mki9200. Difficult decision between non-OEM head unit or bits of plastic stuck all over the car!!

Yeah the bottom is flush it just steps out at the top. Its not to everyones taste as they like oem but then i like my aftermarket sound as do many others on here. :)

Un1eash, looking at that side profile i notice that the facia adapter is sitting out further than the vent, did you look at any other adapters? I'm just wondering if there is one out there that will sit flush?

my fascia and head unit sit exactly the same.i dont think the fascia could be totally flush with the rest of the dash due to angle that the headunit goes into the dash,it sounds odd but its a little akward to explain.i chose to take this route as it gave me alot better sound as well as music input options and it also solved the phone handsfree problem :Dthe fascia is bought as an extra but available anywhere.you will also need the lead adapter to take the wiring loom from the z to the head unit.i got 1 off ebay for £1.49

Not really happy with the factory set up. Just not sure how it will look with the facia adapter, as the factory stereo is quite long and narrow.

Anyone got any pics of one installed?

Looking at this clarion model, touchscreen, built in bluetooth for phone etc;

Might sound like a silly question, but do you know if that unit is compatible with the BMW CD-changer? I know I'll be able to connect my ipod, but there's still times when a CD player would come in handy.
