Any Phone Line Experts?

It's worth asking OpenReach to check to see if you have a REIN problem in your area. When I had poor broadband speed caused by noise on the line this was the problem. Finally identified as a neighbour's faulty tv recorder that was the cause of the problem.

tbh i think there is a fault with the line itself, the internet was working all last night! very slowy i might at up to 4mbs and then just went off about half 10pm. woke up this morning and its still off only now there is no dial tone on the phone!

You should be able to check if there are problems with your line from the local exchange. Do a search on the BT website. I had a problem recently and it indicated there was a problem with work being carried out on my local exchange.
You need to keep pressure on OpenReach to resolve the problem.

Initial check
We're sorry that you need help with your phone line. We just need to do an initial check on your line.

Sorry, we are unable to perform a line test or accept fault reports online for this type of line. Please contact 0800 800 151 (Residential) or 0800 800 154 (Business) for further assistance. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Please check no one's using your line
The test will fail if you're on the phone when we try to carry out the test.

Your broadband connection may be disrupted during the test.

Nova, I worked for BT for nearly 35 years so have some idea about line faults...this has all the indication of your dw being at fault if it's a dw 6 as I mentioned earlier and now it's gone NDT (no dial tone) I think it even more likely so can you confirm what type of dw you have ?

If its any consolation I had the exact same fault and I suspected our dw and thats what it turned out to be

Dropwire ... I asked you earlier to try and determine what yours was. .post a pic if possible

If so I would ring 151 request a line test as they should be able to localise to a definite Dis (Disconnection) ..there is nothing worse than trying to isolate a transient fault so its probably better for you if it goes off completely as it gives the Openreach guys something to test for

Yeah nothing at all now!

The yellow wires are just catenary wires and are just to support the weight of the cable

Does this wire go all the way to the pole ? or are there any joints in any or grey boxes on your house as its not been unknown for engineers to replace the lead in and leave the original span up especially if it s D pole (d for dangerous).

If its not the dw it could be a dodgy connection on the DP (distribution point) on the pole or a dodgy crimp in the cabinet or even a dry joint on the mdf in the exchange if its not been changed to Krone connectors. Also possible its a UG ((Underground) fault such as a big earth or a battery both of which should show up in a line test

yeah the cable comes direct from the pole to a box about 10 feet up the side of the house, from the box on the side of the house it then runs into the house.

Can you tell what kind of wire goes to the pole ? Is it flat and grey ?
