Any one reached their mileage allowance

when i ordered my car in march, i wasnt expecting to do a lot of miles in it as i had a daily run about so only specified an annual mileage of 8k

since then a lot has changed. my mate commandeered my daily run about when i lent it to him whilst i was picking up my z4 in april. i changed jobs in august which paid me a monthly allowance for a car and required me to do about 1500 miles per month.

so all in all, i will clock up my 8k allowance next week :o

my pcp contract states excess mileage will be charged at 9.8p a mile, which isnt a major problem

did anyone else get their mileage calculation wrong when they got theirs?

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you start doing humungous mileage in which case you could buy a dirt cheap runabout for the winters, haven't hit 900 miles in mine since April and it won't be out again until next March  :driving:

Check the contract terms. SWMBOs car was well over contract mileage when she renewed. She wasn't charged as the contract states excess mileage is only charged if you don't buy another car...

That sounds like a massive shame TitanTim, they are designed to be driven...

Ye I hit mine, but thankfully the new year starts 20th Nov so a few miles wont make much difference.

Hit mine aswell already in the 5 series & my year doesn't end till next feb, hoping the miles will slow down now as we were selling a house in Cheshire & i kept popping back from Lincolnshire, it's sold now so should be ok.

I thought the monthly payments & GFV were based on the mileage, so they calculate the GFV according to the expected mileage at the time, so if you go over it, then surely the car could be worth less than the GFV, hence the mileage charge? If your job allowance covers the additional, then its not a problem.

I got 3000 miles for free, cos they changed my car but not the contract details, so the mileage over 4yrs is still expected to be 40,000 but I've only got 3.5 yrs till the end of it! I normally over estimate my mileage at 15k, so this time said 10k...then they threatened to move our office which wouldve buggered me, but thats off for now!

My car isn't on a PCP, but I do 10,000-15,000 motorway miles per year for business (Scotland to England and back once/twice per month) and then another 5000 personal miles per year.

I love having the Z4 as my daily driver - it makes all trips much more enjoyable!

I'm planning to keep it for 3-5 years and do as many miles as possible in that time. If she gets me to 100,000 miles and I sell her for £5k, I'll have had my fun! That said, if she's still going strong after 5 years and 100,000 miles, I'd probably end up keeping her for a while longer. I don't see the point in renewing a perfectly good car!

I just love driving the Z3 :)

I bought mine the old' fashioned way so thankfully don't have this worry. If I did have an allowance, I'm the type of person who'd watch every mile. :headbang:

One way around this seems to be to hand it back before the PCP time has expired - would depend upon value and outstanding PCP amounts at the time, and at least 50% of the PCP must have been paid off. Also worth considering this option if your car has negative equity come time to sell.

Remember to tell your insurance company about the changed mileage/usage too

Cheers :)

If you hand it back early I think they pro-rata the mileage, so if I did 30k in 1 yr and handed it back, I'd be in for 20k of mileage excess fees...

If you're gonna keep the car its irrelevant.

yeah couldnt agree more the car is supposed to be driven and its not worth it to me to buy another car and insure it and not enjoy driving it. may as well clock up the mileage on this and pay a bit more for it..... it would work out the same as having a run about anyway

like i say, the company pays most of the pcp monthly fee and the mileage allowance is 20p per mile on top of that. i am going to lower my monthly travel to about 1k a month and that should keep things decent

my insurance was renewed last month so i did increase the mileage with them based on how many i was doing with the new job

Depends on your point of view, i.e. enjoy driving 2 cars lol

years ago, reps used too take the fuse out - it meant that the speedo and duel guage didnt work,i wonder if todays technology would still allow it. I worked with a couple of guys that contracted for 10k miles pa and then drove 40k pa, and when they put the fuses back in, the miles didnt miraculously rack up. It let them have nicer cars (than me...)

Im only sharing it - i dont advocate it - and i pity the poor blokes that bought them thinking they were low mileage....

Thats like clocking the car....

Missed my Z yesterday and today...had to take my parents to Gatwick, so went up yesterday, stayed overnight and I came back today (they went onwards to Florida...I'm not jealous!!!!).

Obviously the Z isn't the car for such a trip, so took Deb's 1'er. Driving back today along the A303 would've been lovely in the Z!!!!!

Oh well...Sunday tomorrow, must make up for it!

im with admiral too so will give them a call if i ever reach my declared amount lol

i wouldnt dream of taking any fuses out of my car.... would rather just pay the 10p a mile excess...... i wont be doing more than 6k miles over it per year i'm sure :D

not saying its ok but i do have a pal who takes out his high end motors on minimum mileage contracts but does much more & uses one of those mobile " diagnostic/mileage correction" guys at £30 a pop
naughty naughty
