Any one done this key programming?

Has anyone tried this yet?

http://www.programyourkeys.com/BMW_Z4_Key_Remote_Control_Fob_Programming.html

I know its been mentioned here before, and I had a go tonight. On the method 1, it did exactly what it says it should and the door lock went down & up. Only it hasn't made any difference to any key function what so ever!

Am I being a bit thick??

Have you one or both keys not working then? That's what it's for. More set up than programming, if you like.

Ahh Thanks! I thought it would help me turn on some of the key function thats switched off as a stock. All I wanted was automatic locking on driving away.

Not sure if that's do-able on yours but on pre-facelift cars it's a trip to the dealer. For which they may charge, often @ £40. If you've not had it long I'd think they'd set all the options to your preferences foc, as they should have offered this before you bought it.

Mine had that key option programmed by the dealer and to be honest it's a PITA !!

When you end your journey or if you're dropping somebody off, ( or worse - picking them up).. you have to remember to press the central locking 'open' button on the centre console or else, the door opens with an unusual 'feel' .... Also picking someone up means they cant just open the door and jump in ... too much messing about IMO

My dealer's unfortunately down in London - I should have asked him to put it on before I left!

I know what you mean! But I'm concerned about being jumped at lights (some one had not too far from where I live) or in car park. I suppose my paranoia is getting the better of me again :D

BTW does anyone now if individual keys can be programmed to adjust the seat to preferred setting when opening the door? e.g. when I use my key seat will adjust to position 1 of memory seat and when the missus use her key to open the car it adjusts to position 2. I know there is an option "electric seat adjust on unlocking" but not sure if it can be individually adjusted.

Unusual feel? Mine opens fine. You are remembering to pull the handle twice to open aren't you? :P

I think it's a good feature, but yeah, you do have to get in to the habit of remembering to press the unlock button when you pick someone up. There are worse things in life though!

These are all things the (presumably BMW approved) dealer should have done in preparing the car for you I think. I'd ask the local dealer to do it foc as it should have been done - maybe call the London dealer and query it with them first and I bet they'll suggest that.

I've tried the local stealer but they've already told me they wont do it FoC. Not tried the supplying stealer but I cant see them doing it when they can charge me silly money

To top it off the "programming" has reset the key recognition and the car wont recognise my 2nd key :o Gonna try the method 2 and 3 tomorrow to see if the spare key can be re-recognised but if it all fails I might have to take it back to the stealers and pretend innocence :innocent:

RX-78 I had my car programmed by an indie in Telford recently, Cost £25. Nearer to home the indie thats based by Stanley Dock will programme for you, but I dont know what he charges.

I had that happen with an E46. Took it into the dealer and they were pleased to do it there and then for no charge.

Thanks for the heads up  I'm kinda feeling the pinch right now but I might give them ago once my pocket feels a bit warmer :D

I can only wish my stealer is as good as yours

Yes, they are v good. They always collect/deliver, and wash the car. Even when I went in for a while-u-wait free prob diagnosis they offered to wash it if I didn't mind waiting. Last visit I bought a h-light washer cover and a set of wheel centres and they out them on for me foc. I've had 3 cars from them but I don't think that's made a difference. I suspect some of the Tun Wells customers can be pretty demanding so thay have to be 100%. It makes sense, I'll buy there again.

Hope you enjoy the Z, great cars. And the best colour :)

Btw, lived in Liverpool as a kid, Walton :(

Walton is a bit of a deprived area now days - wouldn't want to be driving Zed around there!

Your dealer sounds very accommodating - though I've been told by my mate not to let any dealers wash the car as they wont be as careful as we are on ensuring we wont get swirl marks.

Just a report - did the programming method 2 on there, and managed get the 2nd key recognised again. Phew
