Any non ///M owners using ///M alignment settings?

Going to have my alignment done tomorrow and I am tempted to get the Z4MR settings or ask them to do a custom setup of zero toe all round and -1.25 and -1.5 camber front and rear respectively. I believe the MR settings are very close to this anyways. Does anyone have the MR or MC setup on a non ///M and how does it feel?

Stuart Truman had his Alpina RS setup using the ///MR settings as the alignment shop didn't have the Alpina ones - IIRC correctly he was happy with it.

Hi,

Toe and camber on the rear are inter related on the non M cars, so you'll need to decide whats more important, stability or cornering ?, I originally set mine with zero toe (front) and minimum stock camber settings at the rear, it turned in really nicely, but was bloody horrible at anything over 70. Back to stock settings and it's a little understeery, but does'nt feel like it's going to launch you thru the armco if you don't give it your undivided attention.
Somewhere around .2 on the front and half whatever the stock settings on the rear would be worth a try.

Ah I see, so it's not possible to have have zero toe and - 1.5 camber on the non ///M then? Maybe I will have to go with standard settings, just the rear camber at - 2.5 seems quite a lot. Plus I ideally wanted zero toe all round after recommendations on here.

Would still be interested if anyone has managed to get the ///M settings done as I thought I had read of a few who had.

Very keen to hear the response on this. And what you do and what you think?

+1 i think a few other members may have done this in the past

Yep most of us I thought, well as long as you have a 3.0 with the M suspension setup

Are the geo settings exactly Z4M settings then ranski or are they slightly tweeked for the non M?

Did you remove your camber pins?

Thanks

Ash

Just did a search with alignment plus your username and found some useful threads, thanks. Looks like it is possible then

Just need to get the front camber pins out by the looks of it.

As an update, today I had my alignment done at ALS Tyres in Warfield which was a positive experience and I would recommend them. Also had a set of rear Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2's fitted (thanks mj2k). After some deliberation, I decided to stick to the non ///M settings so below is my current setup. Will update with how it feels after I do some more miles.

My old settings:
Camber front: -1˚,1'
Camber rear: -1˚,55'
Caster: 5˚,08'
Toe-in front: 0˚,10'
Toe-in rear: 0˚,12'

According to my specialist these are the margins for the Z4 Coupe with lowered ride height (on 17 inch):
Camber front: between -0˚,32' and -1˚,22'
Camber rear: between -2˚,35' and -3˚,05'
Toe-in front: between 0˚,02' and 0˚,11'
Toe-in rear: between 0˚,05' and 0˚,11'

New settings:
Camber front: -1˚,1'
Camber rear: -2˚,25'
Caster: 5˚,07'
Toe-in front: 0˚,02' (minimum within the BMW spec)
Toe-in rear: 0˚,05' (minimum within the BMW spec)

Problems with my old setup:
Unstable under hard braking.
A little unstable on highspeed cornering.
Sensitive to tracks in the road.
Very sensitive to high tire pressures. Snappy in the wet with the BMW tire pressures which are way too high

Havent done enough testing on my new setup yet but it feels good so far. The rear camber margins from BMW are weird imo. They increased my rear camber quite a lot but it's still below the minimum of what BMW says. My car is on 17 inch and 4 of the same tires around (225/45 R17)
