Having sold my Z4 28i a couple of weeks back I have been researching what to replace it with. After 100's of hours on Autotrader etc and copious YouTube videos and online written reviews and multiple car mags I have talked myself around from SUVs and all manner of esoteric stupid stuff. Almost tempted back to Porsche but my days of sports car are past (almost!).
So I am testing a 428i Dec 2014 tomorrow which seems to offer a good balance between decent performance and a degree of comfort. Unfortunately they insist on shoeing it with those c*** run flats. I guess being used to them from the Z4 it won't be such a shock to the system or will it disappoint?
Anyone with experience of this car? I was surprised to learn on research that it has a metal roof like the Z4. I thought that it would be fabric as metal would be heavy for a performance car and indeed it is. Apparently the weight distribution is well sorted and doesn't detract from the handling or poke too much. Obviously not as nimble as a 3 series saloon or coupe but will no doubt find out tomorrow.
Was tempted by a vicious M135i pocket rocket I looked at yesterday but common sense prevailed as the appearance is shall we say 'bland' and doesn't give me any fresh air option. I would have had a 330d but the only colour in town at the moment in my neck of the woods for low mileage ones is Estoril blue which is definitely marmite. I can't look at it without feeling ill for some reason so that's out as I need a car now.
Any comments on the 428i other than "get a .... instead" gratefully received. I will likely come home with it Friday if the test works out or nothing else for now.
Thanks.
