I was thinking 5-7 investors with 2K each to play about.

Why dont we all make a sort of club here and pool in say 1 or 2K?

And see 3 months down the line where we stand?

Shawn

Rather than real money being used you should just paper trade and see where you are in that time frame.

Cheers,

Simon.

 just waiting for the stampede as everyone dashes for the door
as with most things in the UK the glory days for shares have gone , you would have to work extremely hard to see a return over 12 months that exceeds the best internet bank rate .
JMHO though so feel free to crack on & prove me wrong 8)

Not sure I completely agree with that however the liquidity has certainly dried up which makes day trading very very difficult as taking overnight risk is where you are making money now. The US has far better opportunities for the day trader.

Cheers,

Simon.

Depends how you do it but in my opinion that is investing money for the ten year + time frame. The only way to make money off that nominal is to gear it otherwise charges - broker comm & stamp soon eat it up.

Simon.

I lost my fair share.

Would like to have a group, whereby we can act as a group and take informed decisions.

The strength of the group is always in its best individual.

So could be a good exercise and a learning one too.

That is more an investment club you often find traders are very solitary creatures. The above - who makes the final decision and what happens when it's wrong or losing money, who then makes the decision to cut the position?

Cheers,

Simon.

That's a game that's not for the faint hearted. I wouldn't be able to sleep with 50K in one share and the returns on a comfortable amount (5k max for me) would be pointless..

No sh*t ! Too scary for me...... There's a man I used to shoot with down in Seattle who bought 50k of an IPO, way back, way way back when 50k was some serious money. His broker told him NO, but he thought it was a great idea and said YES. What was the IPO? a small startup called Microsoft. 8)

He never sold a share in it since purchase....... his kids are going to be rolling in it. Man, that took some balls to do that.....much like putting all your assets on 21 on a roulette wheel

I buy some stock currently I bought genworth financial at 4.84 in may now at 7.34 bought Nokia at 1.73 now at 4.20 bought citi like over a year ago and it's about the same might start buying a lot of sears considering my father knows the largest share holder and since he's a billionaire I figure I'll bet with him : )

Then let me know what you are up to and i might try a bit as well.

i must admit i really don't get it. in the past i have dabbled in shares, both as a private investor and in managed funds. many made a loss (OK it was the early 2000's, not a good time) and those that did make a profit only did as well as bonds or savings accounts once the management fees etc were creamed off.

it's just a form of gambling IMO. you can do well, but so can betting on horses or the roulette wheel.

You are dead right dr_john. Often no better than gambling and should be treated as such. The old rule of never play with what you can't afford to lose should be followed at all times.
