Any ideas what this is?

Is that through the side widow. Had to adjust the contrast much, but looks like a large crease in the roof lining. Not good. :(

Or did you mean the caravan. :D

Also the red flash on the button, any one know what it means? Code reader hasn't diagnosed it.

Roof is being mega temperamental. Going down sometimes, not up etc. mechanic thinks its not the motor....

A better question for me is the previous image, the exact same part fell off my roof during some over-exuberant cleaning on saturday - what is it?

It's an anti catch plate to prevent the roof material from getting caught in the mechanism. BMW removed it in facelift cars, so I guess they felt the catch risk was actually minimal.

@Flashgordon - The flashing red light could just mean the system thinks the roof is not properly closed, or there may be a more serious error. If no error codes were found, it must be the former. Note that a faulty or misaligned sensor could also cause the system to mis-read the condition.

I don't think the crease could prevent the roof from operating. It rather looks like an intentional seam. Could this be an after market hood?

The inner liner is attached along the roof internals with about 8 plastic 'catches' (for want of a better term) that have a screw hole and screw in them. The plastic snaps, I guess because of the stress of the liner pulling on them as the roof folds. Had it on my driver's side. If you half open the roof - assuming that you can get it open... - you should be able to see the plastic catch on the hood, and where it screws in. As srhutch says, there is a repair kit available from BMW. I just jammed the bit of plastic back under the screw and then tightened the shell out of it though, and it has been fine since. I don't believe that this would stop the roof working, that will be something else...

I don't have any pics but there was a thread about this a while ago, so try searching...

Ship killer has some great information on his website on issues with the sensors for the convertible top. www,shipkiller.com
