Hi All,

No interest yet in my beloved MC.. any ideas why it isnt selling please?

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3365896.htm

Thanks B

No idea, looks great, and a very good price.
I'll give £5K for it, if you need a quick sale :D

Basing this comment on the US market, that is a lot of miles compared to what I have seen for sale. I don't mind paying more for less miles and probably would not have purchased one with as many miles as yours. I am positive yours is in good shape, just providing feedback from my perspective

Just because you put your car up for sale doesn't mean there will be a buyer. The Z4MC is verging on being a "specialist car". The perception is that they are expensive to own which limits the market.

There are two ways to tackle this. You either keep advertising the car and wait for the right buyer to come along or you slash the price to make it an unmissable bargain. I suggest you wouldn't have to drop the price to £5K. In fact, drop the price too much and people keep away because they smell a rat.

There are a lot of Z4MCs for sale which makes it a buyers market.

I can't see anything wrong with you car. It looks fantastic, mileage is OK. Price is at the lower end if the condition is good.

I'm assuming you are making yourself available to take calls about it. If so you are doing nothing wrong.

It's too expensive for the buyers that are out there I guess. Sold my Z4Mr last week. Took 3.5 months, same yr and mileage as hrs. Fsh but need insp 2 in 2000 miles. Sold for just under £13k.

Car was immaculate but had to go. Even at

IMHO I don't think I would mention the service cost in the advert (£900  ) it probably reinforces perceptions about ///M running costs and is the sort of information that brings me back down to earth when I get 'the fever' :driving:

The mileage is reflected in the price. If I were a prospective buyer with £20K to spend, of course I would wait for the exactly the spec I wanted and a low mileage car. However, if I had only £15K, then this would be great.

Exactly. For what it's worth Ben, had your car been for sale when I was looking, I would have been seriously tempted. I think it's priced well, and don't see why the mileage should put anyone off. I'd far rather buy a car that has been used regularly than a car that sat around for weekend-only duty, personally.

It all depends how keen you are to sell and what you feel you'll be willing to take for the car though. If you keep it on the market for ages, and keep dropping the price little by little, it'll likely put buyers off (or they'll wait until it gets even cheaper).

If you really need to sell, lop £1000 off and it'll sell very quickly, in my opinion. If you're in no rush to sell however, consider leaving it at that price, because it's already well priced for the marketplace, so it just takes a buyer - the trouble is, there aren't many of them out there (though evidence is out there of new buyers - a wave of people have bought them within the last month alone on here, including me).

Now, advice on the advert itself...

Your photos are doing you absolutely no favours. I always sell a car with a minimum of 9 photographs, and these should include (but not be limited to):

- Decent photo of the interior (which yours is lacking)
- 'Show' photos at the best angles of the car (which yours is lacking)
- Detailed photos of specific areas that buyers may be interested in; for example the condition of the wheels (again, yours is lacking)

I'd also consider, depending on your preference, providing photographs of the added extras of the car (for example, the Sat Nav). Whilst it is written in the advert, people may prefer to have photographs to look at.

Again, depending on your preference, you could take specific photographs of any damage - this helps buyers made an educated decision on the car before they call you, and eliminates an element of the negotiation process. It also demonstrates that you are being open and honest with potential buyers.

I'm personally not a fan of seeing 'you must have insurance to drive this car' when viewing an advert, and you may be putting potential buyers off. That's not to say you don't request it when they do come to view the car, but you're potentially reducing your buyers straight away by indicating that. When I've sold cars in the past, I've not said this in the advert, but have asked for it when they view the car (depending on the car). None of them had any problems at all with doing that, with all buyers opting to be a passenger whilst I drove the car - each time, they bought the car.

Other than that, I think the advert is excellent. You've included the key facts that I would want to see (including the FULL service history, which is nice to see - some buyers don't mention the brake fluid changes for example). My only further suggestion would be segmenting the advert a bit more, and taking some of the personal approach away - it doesn't need it. For example:

Registration: YF07 ASX
Mileage: 51,000 miles

First Registered: 23rd May 2007
Purchased: November 2007
Previous Owners: 1

Service History

Specification

(I'd put the service history before the specification, because whilst it doesn't feel a 'natural' format, buying a more specialist car such as this, knowing it has been serviced properly is absolutely crucial).

I hope that helps.

Thanks Guys.. This is really great advice. IK. I really appreciate your input and will look at making some changes.

My new car has arrived now, so will look at dropping the pricing to £15,250.

IK. If you have a second to look at the adverts on Pistonheads.. which one has the best photos of the car that i can look to mimic.

Many thanks

Not sure if it matters, but your title doesn't include the words Z4 MC, so it wont show up in a plain search. It will only show if you browse to the right section .... However as other have stated, its quite a specialist car, with dark evening closing in and massive petrol prices.... non of which will help sell what is a stunning car ( one day .... )

Good luck

Anyone know these guys, just had a call saying they have buyers that want to come and see the car and buy it.. Sounds to good to be true!!! Which normally means it is in my opinion...

Ben - I'll take a look at some adverts later and will try to draft up an advert for you in the way I would have done it. Bear in mind of course this is only my opinion and others may well think differently. For example, I had the professional photograph of my previous Z4C as the main picture on my PistonHeads advert; which I realised in hindsight was a bad idea, as buyers may have been put off by what they thought was a 'stock photo'.

A couple of other things I have thought of though. Don't hide your number plate in the photos (which you haven't); you gain nothing from doing this in reality. Also I've already mentioned that I wouldn't write in a personal style, but I'd suggest putting that you use the car on the motorway etc is fairly useless - the mileage will likely indicate that it's been used well, and buyers can draw their own conclusions.

As for that company - I imagine if you call them back, they will say they have found a buyer, and all you have to do is pay £££ for the details - not worth it. Ignore it, and move on.

'gmetcalf' is also very right - With the weather as it is, you will find less and less buyers out there. Nobody wants to view a car in the dark or the rain, and the likelihood of that happening now is very high. I'd not have viewed the car I just bought if it had been raining, dark or too cold.

IK... Great insight and really appreciate all your assistance in helping with this. Its's sounds like you have allot of experience in this field..

Thanks Ben

Combination of mileage and the fact that its less than two months to Christmas....

Another key point, sadly. People will be more concerned with making sure Christmas is accounted for; both in terms of the money they will have to spend and the time they will have to spend getting everything ready.

Ben - Absolutely not a problem. I'm happy to help where I can.

It's bollocks!

They just trawl Pistonheads/Autotrader/et al ads canvassing for sales for their own website.

They claim to sell 'proactively' on your behalf, but then go on to say that all the do is put the cars onto their website so that a seller can find them

They'll charge you as much as AutoTrader, for about 0.01% of the visits/views.

Ask yourself what any buyer would ask - would you have known about this website if you hadn't been called by them.
