Just noticed this while having a look around, am I missing something?

My bracket is closer to the windscreen washer fluid (pre-facelift).

It's something to do with US cars I believe. Something we don't have in the UK.

Maybe in here somewhere, I had a similar empty bracket on my '53

Isn't that the space left for the emmisions control air pump when building an ///M engine unit?

Could well be. There's a big circular plastic lump bolted onto that holder on mine! Whereas it was the bracket only on my 3.0...

Ah okay, just never caught my eye before until I was killing time browsing under the bonnet :-)

That explains why I don't get responses when I ask about the secondary air pump.

Is there a way to use INPA to stop the ECU from utilizing the secondary air pump? So that the CEL doesn't turn on?

Ditto

Yeah, that's what's in mine, but the bracket holding it is where Disca's is. Was it only fitted to the M in Europe ?

As Ben says, it's a secondary air pump used in the US but not here.

Not just in the US, mine's near the front - same as Citation's. It's only active at startup and then turns off once the choke eases off - AIUI it was fitted to any engine that needed it for emissions control

The actual reason for Perry's post is that he spotted a reason to show off his immaculate engine bay

On-topic, maybe Alpina's are slightly changed compared to the standard models?

That picture's well over two years old - it's cleaner than that now

Yes, that's why I said that the secondary air pump was fitted to any model that needed it for emissions control on startup
