Found it in the Z4 but I don't know if it is anything to do with the car or has inadvertently been left by the previous owner.
Any ideas?

I bought it from a dealer and you don't get the previous owners details anymore because of data protection. Just thought someone here might have an idea, I'm leaning more to it not being related to the car though.

You would think that it could be something like that but I have an OBD11 CODE reader and the end that connects to the car has a similar number of metal connectors but they are very thin and 4-5mm wide so look quite different.

Looks very much aftermarket to me.
Possibly left over from some audio / phone interface perhaps.

Pretty sure that's an adapter for a Playstation controller. Here's my PS2 one...

I P/exd a previous 3.0l E89 to a BMW dealer and subsequently had a call from them - The fella had asked a question about the cars previous history which I answered. I told the dealer they could give him my details as I had a shed load of history, touch up paint, spare key etc etc - They refused. Im sure whoever he was would have appreciated the stuff.
