Right I've got somebody coming viewing my car on Sunday but still has my private plate on it which i want to transfer to my 1 series.

I rang DVLA up to see how I'd go about if I sold it. They said what you would have to do is fill in the V5C form but make sure that they keep section 10 for them to buy tax.

Then what I would have to do is send the V5C form of my Zed and V5C form of my 1 series so I can transfer the number plate straight onto it by filling out V317 form off the dvla website.

But that means him driving off with my private number plates until he gets his new log book with the original reg.

Is this right or anyone been down this route?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
 
You can do this online in a few minutes.

Once you have done the transfer online the car should then be registered with its original plates, so if you have kept the plates you can swap them back onto the car and have your personal plates ready for your new motor.
 
Then doesn't that mean I'd have to wait for the log book with the original number plate on the V5C form to sell it? I've only got the up to date log book with my private plate on it.
 
print off the plate transfer details when you do the online transfer as proof to the buyer that the plate has been swapped. You can swap the plates and sell the car and at the same time send off the V5 doc with the new owners details filled in

So if I did it via the dvla website obviously I change the number plates on the car back to the original. The log book still says my private plate, would the buyer be able to tax it before driving it?
 
Ok, then I stand corrected - sorry bud. Looks like you will have to sort the plate swap and send off your V5 doc and then wait several weeks before you can sell it :(

I did this last year, knowing I would be selling in a few weeks I had to get the swap done in advance, then put it for sale when the new doc arrived. it's a pain :(
 
Just done this recently - transferred my private plate off the car I was selling on the day I sold it and got the new log book in 4 days. Much quicker nowadays.
 
Happened to have gone through this process only this week. I put our plate onto retention with one off £80.00 charge on Monday evening , I was then able to transfer back to the original plate immediately and the new V5c document was with us in Wednesday mornings post.
Couldn't have been simpler.

This is exactly what I've just done. Hopefully I'll recieve the documents midweek. It's a pain in the bum. :tumbleweed:
 
Sorry mine was duff info. :( I was thinking back to when I traded my last Zed and transferred the plate online the night before the deal.
