I've had enough of the diesel Volvo and have come across a bargain 318ci sport. Its 2005 n42 engined. Its been serviced by various non franchised dealers from three year old, in first three years it did 80k miles (motorway rep?) and additional 38k in last five years according to the online mot history check. Bodywork is good, bonnet has been resprayed in past but is hpi clear and physical inspection seems to confirm this.
Does anyone have any advice specific to this car regarding mileage concerns or something unusual happen to them during their ownership of similar vehicle? Cheers.

I had one with the same engine

The engine leaks oil out of nearly every seal it has over its life

Check:
sump gasket for leaks
Vaccum pump for leaks ( back passenger side top of block)
Oil filter houseing where it bolts to the block

If they have been done before ygood news, if not expect to have to get them done at some point
Vac pump is easy to do your self as is the oil filter

The sump is a bit harder as the engine needs lifiting slightly but can be done

Also its valvatronic and its quite common for the vvt motor to wear out and need replacing

Also timing chain guides, how old is it? If it has the old guides the can skip teeth and put timing out
Having said that I thought mine had new ones but it had the old ones and I didnt find that out till just before I sold it and was fine

Radiator is weak on all e46's the bottom bows and needs replacing you can see that through the grills

Rear wishbone bushes aswell

No problem, good luck with the purchase

Mine was april 04 and didnt have them
