Any Computer Monitor Experts?

Fancy an upgrade from my trusty HP w2228h 22" LCD display.

Im not a gamer, primarily use my screen for web, email, old school text based games like Championship Manager / International Cricket Captain / Red Alert etc, watching the odd video, youtube, etc, etc you get the idea.

I'm looking to upgrade to a 27" VA / IPS panel for around the £150-£200 mark. However all screens are a max res of 1080p (1920 x 1080) at that price point. This is the res I'm currently running at so my query is, is there any point spending on that upgrade if I will see no return in res upgrade?

Or should I double my outlay, go for a 2560 x 1440 display (£350 ish) which may also require a gfx card upgrade...

Or should I just stick with the HP which has done nothing wrong for the past 6 years...

Any ideas?

I bought a number of Philips 27" with a 1920 * 1200 resolution, which is my preferred resolution to work with.
 
I'm running a Dell u2412m (24' ips, 1920x1200) and have had no quibbles with it.

All depends if you can justify the graphics card upgrade too. A higher resolution will allow for more real estate, but if the current resolution is enough, then there isn't much reason to upgrade.

From personal experience, a 16:10 monitor would suffice better for what you've mentioned so that is something I would say is worth considering.
 
Thanks guys, instead I may go for a new gfx card (one that can handle 3 outputs) and buy a 2nd 22" monitor as I have the space on my desk...

Any suggestions on gfx cards? My currents set up is:

ATI Radeon 4350
LG 42" LED via HDMI
HP w2228h 22" LCD via DVI
 
I've got a personal preference to Nvidia cards myself, and as with most things, would suggest you get the best your budget allows for.

Alternatively, you could opt for dual cards (if your mobo supports it) in SLI/Crossfire though this may be overkill for your requirements. (But always good for bragging rights)
 
Well I've been an idiot and overlooked the fact that my mobo has a built in Radeon X1250, apparently, I can run this and my 4350 simultaneously meaning I have no need for gfx card upgrade..

Just need to find another 22" now and get it to fit on my desk!

Shame I missed the £60 Sammy Ebuyer were doing earlier today.. EDIT - Amazon have it for £50 with poor reviews..
