Any cases of chassis corrosion and failed mot?

Looking at the mot history of some of my previous bmw’s From 1999-2003 they have all suffered mot fails for corrosion near a structural component in the last few years.

Inspecting my z4 2003 it’s showing no signs of any chassis corrosion, no surface rust near jacking points or where suspension components mount and under wheel arch plastics which is good news.

I searched on google for any common corrosion issues and all that comes up are rear brake lines which I would expect and are no big issue.

So, is the protection on the z4 good or have Bmw managed to engineer out water traps ect?

Has anyone ever seen a z4 with chassis corrosion or ever heard of one failing an mot for it?

Reason for asking I am going to semi retire the car soon for summer and dry winter days and was going to do a full clean of all the salt ect and general tidy up and wanting to know of any secret places I should pay particular attention to.

Cheers.

I've been on this forum for a couple of years now and don't recall ever seeing any threads about correded chassis

Fortunately structural rust is a non-issue, only 0.090% of Z4's fail on Body, Structure and General Items (which is 84% better than other 2008 cars), I posted a list of the stats on an old thread a while ago

Very little comment on here on rust in general. Just a few poor paint finishes and the odd wheel arch come to mind. Tap rust in to the forum Search engine and see what comes up. More reliable that my poor old grey cells for sure.

Rear wings (not structural) are the only rust issues I know of after the hatchback tailgates. But these are few and far between.

My coupe had the rusty boot (replaced by BMW under warranty) and both rear wings have a couple of rust spots

Nothing else to report though, and I've given it a thorough inspection on a ramp

Another common area on many cars are the bottom of the doors, where water gets in next to the window seal & drains away.

Fortunately it seems BMW have mastered the art of properly sealing here
