Why ? Are you about to buy one ?. I think they are quite a classy motor ,they were built in West Bromwich in Birmingham,,Top Gear did an article on them where they visited the long closed down factory , very sad ,nice car.

 Me. Always loved the looks, style, power, rarity. The SP my favourite. That one ^^ a very late car, don't like the chrome sills but that styling still looks cool.

I love these and went cash in pocket to test drive one about 20 years ago. It's a spectacular drive, huge muscular engine, huge to drive and I loved it, but my head took over and when I calculated the work that I could see needed doing, added the probable work that I couldn't see I realised it was going to be a money pit so ran a mile! :D

No not buying one yet........... just always thought they were a class looking car. Has any one driven one?
They were a bit of a Frankenstein car with the beautiful 70's body being coupled with a big yank motor

Yes a great looking car they sound great as well where i grew up in southall west london 2 brothers round the corner from me owned a black one they
used to use it to tow their racing sidecar motorbike which was black as well, i think thats what started my fascination with cars and bikes

Yes I test drove the one I looked at, it's big! think 3 feet longer than the Z4, wider and weighing 1/2 ton more! they have a 6 or 7 litre Chrysler block giving about 300bhp depending on the emissions model, auto box, LSD and decent brakes. But despite the stats it's no barge, it actually felt low and pretty lively, it's a big GT and probably one of those cars that feels like an event to drive every time you fire up that engine and far more modern than many cars from the era. Bad bits? interior actually a bit kit-car in terms of quality and the steering was baggy but that may have been the neglected example I drove. One of my favourite classics but costs can be crushing.

I had one when I was 22...

I only drove it for about 5 miles... Had it in the garage for a year, couldn't really afford to do the work on it,so sold it on..

It was cerise with oatmeal leather..

They seem pretty elusive on the road these days.
I asked for a brochure (via snail mail)from a local dealer in Newcastle when I was 6 years old. I had seen the car on the telly and thought they looked fantastic. I received a luxurious brochure back and asking when I wanted to arrange a test drive! :o
There used to be a beutiful deep mettalic blue with cream hide interior regularly seen on Westgate hill Newcastle back in the day.

They had a shot a renewing the car a number of years ago?

Great car, drove one in the 70's. That Chrysler (Mopar) 6.3 litre V8 (325 bhp?) is now old technology but magnificent, and the rear window design is just sublime. If anyone's tempted to buy one I am sure it would prove a good investment in a few years but best make sure you've got an oil sheik as a good pal if you're actually going to drive it. A few years back there was a very good episode of Wheeler Dealers featuring the interceptor. The only let down was that they decided to remove the non working air con, as it needed about a grand to put it right. The old expression about spoiling the ship for a ha'porth of tar came to my mind.

I guess for the benefit of anyone under 50 or across the pond, I might need to explain this very old saying. It basically means when you have spent a lot of money on something, don't spoil it at the end by being a tight b'astrd and omitting something just to save a bit more money. Comes from old time wooden shipbuilding when, having spent a fortune on timber and labour, the ship is finished with a layer of tar on the hull that is a thinner coat than it should be. ie the half penny worth of tar that is not purchased. Sorry to anyone if I'm teaching grandmother to suck eggs-oh maybe I should also explain this old saying, ok I'll shut up now.

My grandads been wanting one of these for years, but he needs to get rid of his Humber, beetle and camper van first :(

The one i had was a 7.2..... I think they changed engine around 1970...

Love the Intercepter, just a classy British Sports Car, its on Wheeler Dealers this minute :)

Shame they rusted a bit :(

Tim.

I love them to bits -my uncle Raymond had one [white ] when i was a small boy -along with an E type , DB volante , Corniche and a fancy yacht -he was a pal of George Best in Manchester where we lived at that time .Suffice it to say hes now penniless after he blew his inheritance .
Nice memories though .
Mad dad was always jealous of these cars -i do recall him borrowing the E type though and saying it wasn't as nice to drive as his Alfa GTV .
