Saw that on the news the other day. Bit unusual for Dundee, and a million miles away from my shabby flat in Lochee as a student :D

No need for shabby flats now - the Universities are the biggest landlords in Dundee these days. :)

Whereabouts is that going to be located? Is that on the site of the old Olympia?

It's, erm, different.

Dundee's improved a lot in the past decade IMO. Mrs a11y stayed in a flat/terraced house in Osborne Place after spending one year in some hell-hole of uni halls (can't recall the name but was like a prison apparently).

Olympia is to be demolished and a new swimming pool built on the Allan Street car-park site.

The V&A will be built behind what was Olympia.

Sorry Malc, but I think it is Stunning
Dundee I think will benifit not only financially but also culturaly as well, which will pay its own dividends,
Tourists will have another reason to come to Dundee.
I only hope it does not go the way of all the other great projects in Scotland, Unbeleivably and massively over budget and 4 years late.
At least it is a nice looking building Unlike the Scottish parliament building (what were they thinking :headbang:) I could cry at how much that cost and what we got for our money.

And it will make a stunning back drop for a few z4 pics

Taste is a very personal thing, isn't it? I just think it is magnificent. Stunning! You wouldn't want a street full of them, but a one off discussion point is what it is all about..........just like the works it will contain.

I love the gherkin, the Lloyds Building, the Pompidou Centre, the Guggenheim in Bilbao and New York.....I love to see us push at the boundaries. The very fact we are having a discourse means it is serving its purpose.

I live in a bog standard square brick built flat. A thing like this is a breath of fresh air.

Agree, I'd rather see individuality in design rather than some bog-standard boring square building. With this, it's going to look a bit strange in the middle of Dundee but perhaps that's a good thing.

Individuality is a great thing: the Z4 (E85/86 at least) is one that split opinion, especially at first (I wasn't a fan when it was first shown). Better than something boring like (IMO) a mk2 Audi TT.

i work in architecture!... If i have ever learnt anything its once things are VE'd (value engineered) it will look nothing like that. Hopefully though it will remain close to the original concept which actually looks rather cool !
