I was trying to put the 'wings' about half an inch back from where they were supposed to rest. I'm surprised I didn't break anything in the process...
Top 6 reasons to paint your own rotors/calipers without any relevant prior knowledge which I had ample time to think up all last night:
-The vehicle will always draw first blood... always. Don't worry, parts cleaner keeps wounds super clean as well.
-Regardless of how much research /preparation you do beforehand, you will lack something. I MacGyver'd my brakes back into working order using Cat IV cable and a Pinesol bottle.
-Disc brakes are surprisingly simple. Only two bolts hold them to the vehicle... they're on the back side, out of reach, and torqued to about a thousand foot pounds.
-Brake dust combines with blood, sweat, and water to form concrete. You'll need to remove it before painting.
-Brake fluid eats paint and apparently defies gravity. Prepare to retouch those painstakingly coated calipers.
-It'll only take you 72 times longer to accomplish than the Youtube video showing you how... and only 4 times as long as you THINK it'll take YOU.
