Antenna ? on facelifted models

I have the upgraded audio system: Carver, bluetooth, BMW Assist but no nav. What all does my fender mounted antenna support?

I thought I had a schematic of the sound system but I can't find it. :idunno:

If my feeble memory serves me correctly it's basically just the AM radio. The FM antenna is on the inside of the rear bumper.

Aerial antenna is for AM/FM, and the rear bumper antenna is for use with the GPS/SatNav and Bluetooth/BMW Assist features. :thumbsup:
 
My antenna is a single rod wrapped with a longer length wire. Okay, here is where I was going with this: if the length or configuration of the antennae (assuming there actually is more than one), i.e. swap the OEM for a stubby, wouldn't it affect the capability, and therefore, function of it? Would "diminished" be a correct description?
 
From some of the posts I have seen, the FM reception may be diminished. I have not done it myself, just reading on other users posts, but it seems to be a 50/50 shot if FM is degraded (slightly) or not :idunno:
 
If FM is the only function that would be negatively affected then I good with that. I rarely use any AM/FM function at all.
 
I never use AM/FM at all so have never cared or noticed how either was diminished when I got my stubby.

the Mango walk ones are less than $10, what have you got to lose, worst case you put the OEM one back on.

That's not what I've seen posted elsewhere.
IIRC the FM is split between the bumper & fender antennas
AM is on the Fender only.

When I installed the stubby, there was a slight degrading of the AM, ...FM was just fine.


Rear Diversity system
 
Just as long as there is no affect on any other functions, I'm going to go with a carbon fibre tyoe replacement, Or should I go neon? :wink: :o :roll: :rofl:
