I tried replacing the head unit this weekend and had to work through several stumbling blocks. I'm hoping the collective wisdom on the forum can help out with one such stumbling block that has me a little stumped.
I removed the fan unit from the dash with no problem. When I slid out the head unit the antenna connector fell away from the socket at the back without me having to disconnect it. Once I had completely removed the head unit I could see that the antenna cable coming from inside the car which is supposed to be a fakra connector has had the plastic fakra housing broken and it had fallen off.
So the antenna cable still has all the metal parts of the right angled fakra connector in place and I can slot it into the fakra connector on the head unit and I get radio reception but without the plastic housing there is nothing to firmly hold it in place. I am concerned that when driving the vibration will just shake the connector loose.
I have searched for fakra connectors and fakra housings. I have found this. and I am wondering if I can take one of the plastic housings from that kit and attach it to the current fakra metal work on the antenna cable.
I would prefer not to have to cut off the current connector and solder on a new one as there isnt a lot of extra cable to play with so it would be rather fiddly in the space.
I'm open to any suggestions on how to proceed please?
