Another Wet under the carpet woes thread

Hi All,

Ok I have done LOTS of reading on here and all over the net regarding this subject, but I'm still at a loss.

So like many others I have a worrying amount of moisture nigh on sopping wet under the passenger carpet. there is no sign whatsoever on water on the top as carpet top is not wet. any where underneath it is really wet, did I mention sopping, all the seals seem ok as I poured water all over the bleedin thing. no water/moisture seems to be getting in Via the door.

Dismantelled the trim under the glove box removed pollen filter seems dry there, there is foam on the bulkhead and that seems a sad damp but I cannot tell if thats moisture being soaked up or not, I've removed the windscreen cowl driver side drain was massively blocked so cleaned that out, and cleaned up all around the drains on passenger side.

Plastic inlet for air filter seemed like the foam was a little damp so I removed the front of the plastic inlet cleaned it up and put a small amount of black engine gasket silicon sealant on the edge and re-assembled everything and cleaned it up mad sure all the clips fitted properly all around the top.

I really have no Idea what else to do, and to make matters worse putting the big lump of carpet back in the passenger side pulled a cable and broke it.. looks like one someone else put in ( does have a tracker fitted ) think it may be that..

We bought it knowing that the was broken ( I have a new regulator ) slow air weep on 108 rims ( being sorted this Saturday ) and what with having to replace the ABS Sensor on the front left and the two pressure sensors on the master cylinder.. I'm fecked off with this German crap box.. bmws reliable. well built.. really.. sorry I love the car it's great, 1 owner from exdemo Full dealer service history seemed like a right deal at £4.5k with 89k on the clock for a 2004 car.. just miffed withmy first 3 weeks of Z4 ownership.

Please help where else can I look?
Can I remove the carpet just on the passenger side? is it easy to remove the seat?

Any advice on the leak I will NOT be beaten..

Going to have to tackle this job on my car as water is getting in somewhere but only on the passenger side. To be sure it isnt getting in through the door seal you need to take the door card off and check that a previous owner hasnt damaged the sealing material.
If you need to remove the seats it seems to be an easy job, just undoing the bolts under the car. The recommendation if you have heated seats is to disconnect the battery as you will need to disconnect the cabling under the seat as you remove it. If you dont do this car will show error codes which I understand you cannot reset yourself.
Most cases on the forum seem to be resolved by repairing the sealing material behind the door card.
Please post your solution

Ok I may be able to shed a little light on this.. I have just bought my Z4 a week ago so set about today cleaning the interior and yes my passenger side floor is wet. Dried it out as much as I could and the interior has come up really clean. As it was a hot day thought I would leave the doors open and let it air out, but that did not last long as the heavens opened , so closed everything up and sat in the car to see where the water is coming in.

Ok found it coming in at the bottom of the door front bottom corner... Removed the panel to find no protective membrane, the water is getting passed the outer window scrapper then dripping inside the door just above where the window motor is ... Then must have been hitting the inside of the door card running down on to the in side of the car...
So do I ..
1 . Need new membranes as the drivers door has none either? If so dose anyone know the part number?
2 . Need new outer window scrapers? And again does anyone know the part number?

Thanks hope this helps with your problems

If you search under the parts thread at the start of this section you will find the part number you are looking for.

Both membranes bought from BMW ... rang them this morning and they had them by 3pm... Now Nicky fitted and a cost of £65 for both.. Managed to get some butyl tape of a fried .
