Picked up this beauty over the weekend, I just can’t stay away!

2003 3lt, first time with the sta nav screen which has Bluetooth which is a big plus. Cruise control which is very handy along with the usual toys.

It’s also had gearbox, diff and engine oil recently replaced and a suspension update.

This is the first one that has had the clutch delay valve removed and it really has made a massive difference. This is probably my 6th or 7th Z and I know people said in the past you should do it, and now experience it……what a big difference!

I think I’m going to change the kidney grills to black ones to refresh the front, apart from that…just enjoy this one 😊

That looks smart, has some handy options fitted, and fresh fluids and a suspension update is always a bonus.

But I'm amazed you've never had a CDV removed before! I've had it done to a couple of 3 Series as well as all my Z4s as it makes such a big difference. :D

Black grilles sound like a good idea too. I've never understood why BMW fitted the grey ones to all 3 litres but no other models. 😕

Well I've never heard of a clutch delay valve before and I've had quite a few zeds! What is the difference then after removal and does it affect anything adversely? must be there for a reason? Very interesting that.

It’s there to protect US drivers, who are not used to “stick shifts” from destroying the transmission, but otherwise just slows down the clutch disengagement/engagement. For UK drivers who have been brought up operating manuals, it’s simply not required.

It was fitted to protect the drivetrain from "ham-footed" drivers letting the clutch engage too quickly. It basically reduces the flow of fluid into the clutch slave cylinder as it has a smaller diameter than the pipe.

But anyone competent with a manual doesn't need it. Removing it improves the gear change quality, especially between 1st and 2nd.

Search for BMW CDV removal and you'll find loads of info, photos and "how to" videos.

Zedebee beat me to it!

Thanks for the comments 😊

Anyone thinking about doing the clutch delay valve removal, do it, as stated above the difference is big, 1st to 2nd is 👌🏻
