The single-pot calipers with floating rotors on the Z4M are significantly better than the 6-pot calipers on the front of the 135i, they can take the heat better. Our 135i, although about 100kg heavier than our Z4M, doesn't have the sustained braking capability of the Z4M. There have been some reports of the pistons cracking on the 135i calipers after sustained track use with aftermarket pads.
The major difference between a 6-pot and single-pot caliper is evenness of clamping force along the pad length and firmer pedal feel (due to the caliper not floating). Both can be engineered to give the same clamping force (the same in both cases if the total piston area is the same) and the same pad size, hence the same braking performance.
Upgrading the Z4M brakes requires going to larger aftermarket rotors and calipers under 19" wheels.
