Another 'too good to be true?' thread?

Interesting - that car (well the genuine one) belongs to a Forum member. I've passed him the link so he can decide what he wants to do.

If I were the owner I would contact this fraudster and play him on. Get his details (in Lagos probably) and tell the police.

i have had dealings with fraud on gumtree for an iphone the police have kept me informed there were approx 350 people how had complained so guess that there are 100s more who didnt report it. the police caught about 50 people who were operating the fraud and the case has just finished a few got prison and a few suspended prison sentences not much hope of getting any money back as they apparently had no assets! be warned if you make an online transfer to another bank account you can't get your money back from the bank even if you can prove it was fraud as the transaction is regarded in the same way as paying cash. the police told me gumtree is the worst site for fraud they even called the investigation operation gumtree until they changed it i think because gumtree complained

I thought eBay would have cleaned up gumtree by now, unless they leave it alone so that the scammers don't try the same on the eBay site

Correct.

I've been checking every day, and everyday I see it I report it again.

Hopefully they'll get the message.

I wonder if Gumtree can be held partly liable if someone scammed, of course not in general, but because they've had plenty of warnings that it is a fake advert and they've failed to remove it?

So many people are taken in by these adds but surely if you see a car advertised for sale at half its value, do alarm bells not ring? or when you are asked to transfer cash without seeing a car?

My sympathies to those who have lost money through this fraud but ffs there are some easy prey about :headbang:

Just to let everybody know that this guy is still at large. I responded to an advert on Gumtree for a black 2007 BMW Z4 3.0si Sport 2dr coupe, number plate VE07 KXC.

The ad now expired but I first received a text message from a Skype account, then an email from [email protected]. He called himself Adam Hoffer but the emails said exactly the same as what other people have reported i.e. just got a job in Ireland, can take 1-2 days off to deliver it etc.

Luckily I realised it smelt fishy almost straightaway and so did not pursue any further...other than to send a rather abusive email back and to inform him that I had report him to the police. He actually had the cheek to reply and was rather smug!

Be very wary, and never give any cash before seeing a car! Hope this helps people.

Unfortunately you get the idiotic who go for these.

So these people thrive on.

Especially for foreign buyers from Cyprus and Malta.
