Another suspension query.

Ok, so on a recent MOT, i had an advisory for a leaking rear shock. He also said that a front shock may be leaking, but wasn't 100% sure.

Sure enough, on my drive home today, i felt the car go very bouncy up front, almost boat like. Upon inspection, i could see my front n/s shock was leaking quite a lot of fluid and i was able to push the front end down, by hand, a few inches with no real effort.

Now my car is a 2003 3.0i, which i believe has sport suspension as standard. I have eibach lowering springs on and to me, it sits perfectly and also isn't too low, so speedbumps aren't a major issue.

What are the equivalent spec Bilsteins to the sport suspension? I've seen all sorts spoken about on here, so it's easy to get confused by all the different B(*) derivatives.

I don't want the ride to be any firmer than it already feels and i don't race my Z4 on a track, so no need for uprated coilovers or anything too fancy.

I just want to be able to enjoy it as my daily driver, and also be able to have a bit of fun down the country lanes at the weekend.

I faced the same dilemma. The heart of the confusion stems from bilsteins own info. On one hand they tell you the b4 shocks are for standard (as in se not m sport) suspension and that for m sport you need the b8 stuff which they themselves package with the eibach springs to call the b12 kit. However on the other hand they then tell you the b4 stuff is actually fine to use with lowering springs up to 40mm.
In the end I discovered the b8s are uprated 15-20% over the m sport shocks with the b4 on a par with the se. Bearing that in mind and the fact that I like you didn't want a harder ride than I already had and don't track it, I opted to go b4 and am reasonably happy with the results. Certainly better the knackered m sport ones that came off it.
 
After all that, i went and bought the B12 kit anyway :lol: my mate recommended it, so if it's too harsh, i'll be having words with him :evil:

Managed to get them for £640 from demon tweeks, which isn't as bad as the £710 i was originally going to pay.

What else do i need, apart from new top mounts? I replaced the drop links with meyle hd parts a couple of years ago. Can't think of anything else that i need to purchase.
 
I haven’t got around to changing my shocks yet but after reading a few posts on here I’ve stocked up on replacement pinch bolts for where the shock goes into the upright as the existing ones are likely to be badly corroded.

I’m in a similar boat at the moment (front right spring broke), so bought shocks, springs, mounts, bump stops and dust covers. Had changed drop links recently so they are fine. Haven’t installed yet but rubber pads should be fine I hope. I think that’s all that’s needed.

Id just get the mounts if the links are newish. Spring pads are usually fine. Don't get Meyle HD rear mounts though. Get the lemforder ones or you'll have knocking from the rear.
