Another storm!

There's just been another electrical storm !
This time another house not 50 / 60 meters away got hit - it's taken a strike on the ridge at the gable end and set the roof space to flame. Fortunately the family were away so there's no injury.

At the time of the strike, there was a loud pop in my lounge and my super Siemens phone system has gone kaput. So that's my Disco peppered with ice balls and severely dented and my phone system!

Compared with the folk along the road tho ?

Not good is it. I like storms but not when your car is getting hit like you parked it on a driving range.

H.

I'm starting to think along the lines of "sod the car" there's life and limb on the line in these situations.

After the house along from me was struck and in flame, there were people with their children gawping at it as the fire service were doing their work. The children will be worried next storm won't they ?

Nothing so dramatic down here. Just half the car alarms in the road were going off with one down poor. :?

Good to hear there were no injuries. Heard there were two people struck by lightning in the Brecon Beacons today.

Aren't you supposed to lay flat on the deck in exposed areas of electrical storm?

No. You are meant to crouch down with your hands on your knees. If you then are struck, the current misses your vital organs. If you lie down and there is a stike nearby, yiu run the risk of the whole current running through you.

i've been mountaineering and caught in a couple of storms. You know you're in trouble if your metal kit starts to humm!

I seem to remember there was a method - thanks for the reminder.
As a family we were caught in a storm above the tree line on one of the mountains in kitsbule
Can't remember ktzbuhle horn or hahnencam but spent an hour in cable car repair station with lightning conductors.
That was scarey - I thought I was going to be responsible for the death of us all.
My 33 year old daughter still has a fear of das Blitzen!

Sure i heard that too.
If your hair stands on end you are about to be struck by lightning and should lean forward and put your hands on your knees.

Was out walking locally yesterday, heard a long rumble of thunder overhead and the wife's hair started to stand on end, just like when you rub a balloon on your swede. Scary/exciting/weird stuff. Needless to say we legged it back to the faraday cage sharpish, the rumbles seemed to be hot on our heels. Was reminded of Jeff Goldblum's adage from Jurassic Park/Independence Day: "must go faster". :exitright:

Crazy story!

Glad you're OK! Any pics?

When the first big storm hit here, i was mid-parking-manouvre in the Zed, i thought i'd somehow smashed into the car behind me at 50mph and slammed on the brakes, turns out it was thunder :/

made me laugh, and then run inside very quickly..
