Another step to detailing - Glazing?

Has anyone on the forum used a glaze as a step in their detailing regime?

It can be used between polishing and waxing and apparently adds a wet look, mirror finish. I just question whether there would be a significant enough gain in finish to warrent the additional cost/effort.
 
I have used poor boys black hole, very well thought of on detailing web sites, my Z is black so works well, I believe that glazes have fillers that disguise minor swirls and defects. There are a lot of different types and makes, look on polish bliss, clean your car web sites they have good guides and lots of glazes. Is it worth doing, I believe it is if you don't have time to machine polish, the one I use seems very effective, but as most things it is down to individual preferences and what you believe is best for you. Even some of the best do not cost a lot of money, mine £13, so you could give it a try without investing a lot.

Cheers for the advise. I have gone for Chemical Guys EZ Glaze overlaid with Dodo Purple Haze. Combined with a clay and polish this is going to be a long weekend of detailling.
 
As eleflo said, glazing is the step used after polishing to generally fill/hide remaining light swirls/scratches. Final polymer wax or carnauba based (or both) is really where you will get most of the wet look finish from.

the next question will be what wax is the best, this will open a can of worms :lol:
 
Hopefully the purple haze will look good. A soft wax that should pull out the metallics in sterling grey. I bought some ironx today to add yet another stage to the detail.

Just hope the rain holds off!

From what I have read using Tardis and ironx can remove the need for claying. No claying means zero risk of picking up something on the clay and scratching heavily contaminated paintwork.

From what I have learned they to slightly different jobs, Tardis removes Tar, IronX removes metal contamination, however Wolf's chemical deironizer is apparently very good and it's half the price of IronX. As far as wax is concerned this is a very personal thing, it depends on a lot of things, what you use the car for, is kept out side, is it a weekend car, I use Z8 on black it cracking, on Silver cars I have read that sealants look better,if you are not sure there are sites where you can get small samples at very low cost, this will give you a chance to try before you invest.
I have a few waxes, swissvax, poor boys natty wax blue, miglorie, dodo juice purple haze and they all seem OK, but I'm no expert I just use what I like and what I think give my Z the best look.

Agreed, unless one applies a few coats of Zaino Z2, topped with a coat of P21S Concours Carnauba Wax, then the debate is closed... :D
 
Glazes are great. Ive found that Chemical guys ez creme glaze works very nicely. More so with acrylic sealants as it is acrylic itself. Glossworkz is a next level in gloss shine and works great under carnauba waxes. That said. glossworkz does work well with blacklight sealant and V7 hybrid spray sealant which are acrylic so the jury is out on that one. Depending on colour, some waxes can give tangeable twists to the finish but the main part is the preperation. As for tardis and iron x. 2 different dogs of war. Both good at what they do but neither will eliminate the need to clay. Tardis will remove tar and bitumen. Iron x will remove iron contamination that can be found in tar along with airborn iron contamination from break dust. Neither will remove the likes of treesap and other such contamination ergo clay is always a must.
 
Note to self. Dont get over eager and try to apply said gkaze /wax ib the baking sun. Agggghhhhrrrrrr
