Another Saris Bones question

Anyone have any pics of the Saris Solo 1 fitted to a E86 coupe.

I'm just after something for 1 bike.

Similar to a Saris Bones 2 really.

The Saris Bones is a great bike rack, I used to use one on my previous 3.0i E85 and it worked brilliantly. My biggest concern these days if I was to use one again would be whether the Z4 had the ground clearance needed to get to the places I go riding off-road!

I’ve still got my Saris Bones rack, but not the M Coupe. I do have a normal coupe now though, and wouldn't hesitate to use the Saris on that. Only addition would be a set of hatch huggers to help soften the contact points a little.

Hi mate - just bought a Saris Bones 2 off eBay. What do you mean by hatch huggers? Can you kindly send a photo or a link or something?

These...they effectively replace the plastic-covered hooks on the Saris and are kinder to your paint/shutlines.

That’s helpful - thanks mate

 Photos when you’re sorted would be great to see.

The RockBros suction version seems to be a good alternative to the Seasucker.

Okay my Saris Bones 2 arrived today. Had a play around with it, and I agree the "Top" clips do rest on the glass, which makes me uncomfortable.

Looks like hatch huggers would sort the issue, will get on an order some!

Looks a great setup and yes - those hatch huggers will dispel any worries of lifting rear glass
Glad it all worked out.

forgive me if im wrong, but i thought the two lower legs of the rack were supposed to rest horizontally on the bumper, rather than vertically against the bootlid?

admittedly, all the photos ive seen of a saris bones on a coupe have the lower legs positioned vertically against the bootlid, but that doesn't mean its right :?

I thought that too - in all the photos I have seen for the Z4 convertible, the bottom feet rest on the bumper. For the coupe, they seem to be just above that.

When I was having a look earlier the natural fit for the coupe seemed to be as photographed, but I haven't had a proper play around with it yet

...also the boot lid is a bit less flexible than the bumper. I used on my old roadster once too, but cant remember where it rested. Will see if I can dig out a photo.

Slightly off topic, but are the Bone's racks universal? I use the wife's Golf for the bike most of the time, but occasionally may need to put it on the Z4. I'm currently looking at Rockbros or Sarris.

Pretty much. So long as you have some kind of upward opening hatch or boot, they seem to fit most things.

yeah, i double checked the instructions (I also have a Saris bones 2, though i fit mine to an E90 3 series), and it does state it is a bumper-supported bike rack, and that bumper legs must rest on the bumper. i think the intention is that the weight of the bike acts down on the bumper, and the top straps are just to stop it levering itself away from the car.
