ANOTHER Royal Steering Wheel Upgrade

After the recent threads, as promised, I ordered a new wheel from Jack at RSW. Very friendly guy and super helpful when I was going through the options.

I believe my subconscious had inspiration elsewhere as my misses pointed out to me...

Fitted;
Double padding.
Blue 12 o'clock marker.
Flat bottom conversion.
Perforated E+W.
Smooth N+S.
M Sport stitching.
Was a little dubious of changing it myself as I'm pretty useless with anything of the like, but this was literally a doddle and done in 5 minutes. Very pleased.

That looks fantastic, especially with the perforations.

But your Mrs was right - there is a certain similarity!

Oh and just a side note the silver trims have little plastic clips that hold them in place... After 11 years they were incredibly fragile several of them snapped. I would advise to be very gentle when persuading them off their mounts.

Wheel looks nice.

One question, and it’s a general question, not being picky: why do people have markers at the 12 o’clock position?

Just a little bit of color flair I think! This is probably the exact configuration I would have done... but sadly it sounds like the heated wheels dont do well with the recover. =(

My driving instructor did the same with electrical tape 30 odd years ago - he said it helps the learners when they're doing the point turns etc., but never said how - might have been how he counted how many turns they'd done whilst the vehicle was stationary

It comes from racing. For most people now it's just visual. It's a marker in the peripheral vision showing the position of your wheel. A bit like a shift light.

I've heard nothing but good things about RSW EXCEPT for heated steering wheels.

Thought it was very much a rallying/drifting thing... when the car is sliding on loose surfaces, and you're frequently dealing with armfuls of opposite lock, it can be very helpful to know when the wheels are actually straight!

but for a road car, its purely for aesthetics.

Hi there
Interesting post
Thanks for the tips on the removal/ replacement
Did one on my e85
I had no idea royal did flat bottom conversion
Just ordered a carbon one a couple of weeks back from control custom , can’t wait to get it

I'll be getting my SW redone this winter.. The original wheel leather is just awful..
It's double padding, silver stitching and perforated/dimpled side leather for mine.. Jury's out on the flat bottom wheel.....
What's the turnaround time at the moment?

It was about 2 weeks for the work. I opted for the exchange option which added another two weeks as he was awaiting stock. But when ordering he gave an ETA and it arrived on the first day of that time frame.

Having driven a rally car as an amateur there are times you have no clue which way the steering is pointing, a quick glance down at the marker gets you out of trouble in a second...
