Hey Guys

I've been browsing through the hundreds of threads on tires and rims and I've learned quite a bit. I believe I stated in my first post that I'm not a car guy, just a guy who loves a nice car so I'm back for opinions, advice, personal experience in regards to some specific manners

I'm going to ditch the RFT and switch to an aftermarket rim (going from a 17" to an 18, or 19" hopefully) and looking to get a respectable tire. I read through the forums here and it was said that Falcon FK-452 was a good tire. I've looked around and I just can't seem to find a reseller in my area that carries this particular tire (I've asked to see if it could be shipped, but no one is really willing to help me out). I was able to find a lad that could sell me Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position or Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. To be honest, it's nice and all but I really am confused. I'm trying to take a sensible approach and put research into this purchase but when reading through all of these posts I recognize not many people are from the part of the world I'm from.. I don't mean that in a derogatory way I mean it in such a way that the roads where I live are total crud. I just had my bottom rocker panels painted and placed OEM mudflaps on the front to avoid the road rash that had built up over the years, I deal with potholes.. I swear people think I'm half drunk driving around town the way I swerve on the road to avoid obstacles.. basically, are these tires too high grade for the conditions of which I drive on? What do you suggest? Also, the rims I'm looking at getting are American Racing Rogue.

What would you suggest for a tire, or even rim? I personally am a huge fan of black on black so I think the rims would look quite sexy ;)

Thanks for any input guys, it's been a pleasure to read through these forums when "working" :D

Is it an all-season tire you're specifically looking for? If so, that's possibly why the FK452 doesn't come up, as it's a summer tyre.

If you are after an all-season tire, then there's nothing inherently wrong with the Bridgestone RE960AS or Goodyear F1 ones you've listed, nor with the Kumho Ecsta ASX, Hankook Ventus V4 ES H105, Continental ExtremeContact DWS, or Dunlop SP Sport Signature.

Of course what's available in your area will limit your choices, but most should be available.

Yeah I suppose I shouldn't be looking necessarily for all-seasons given I won't drive this come snow season, blunder on my part. I'll ask around and see about those tires you posted.. it looks like I shouldn't have to worry too much about tires, lots of choices when it comes right down to it.

Thanks for the info mmm-five.. btw nice photo-shopping skills =)

If the roads are that bad where you are I would avoid going to 19 inch wheels as your tyre profile will have to be lower giving you a much harder ride.

I'd do some research on what is considered an "all season" tyre, as opposed to a winter or summer tyre. From what the car magazines reviewed during the bleak and harsh winter we had here in the UK (well, it snowed a bit...) then an all-season tyre is actually intended for temperatures which in the UK we experience for the vast majority of the year (ie: 10 months+).

I'm not sure about your location or your climate, but it could be that a true "summer tyre" compound would be wholly in-appropriate...
