Hi, finally got myself a zed (3.0 SE manual, titanium silver). had it for 6 weeks now and absolutely love it to bits. Wanted to have my first attempt at "detailing" before posting pics, so here are some i took the other day after spending most of saturday working on the paintwork.

The to-do list is
1. Fix the creaking dash (which is driving me bonkers) :headbang:
2. Ditch the runcraps and get a set of FK452s

Any help on taking the dash apart to investigate the creak greatly appreciated - never done it before but no cash left to give to the local stealer :(

Welcome :)

Best colour of Z4, not that I'm biased, and nice set of photos - familiar location but I can't place it...

I've taken the dashboard apart in previous cars but would be scared to try it in the Z4 - it looks well out together and a lot more solid than the one I had apart (fair enough it was a Clio - it almost came apart by itself). I'd be worried about introducing new rattles simply by taking it apart. Where's the creak coming from? My "blanks" below the side air vent rattle (where there'd usually be cupholders) and nothing I've tried so far has helped much.

And you won't regret the Falkens

Cheers
Ally

Ah, too slow typing - have a search for removing the vents and radio and have a poke around in the resulting hole and see what you can identify...

sorry, i realised my description wasn't great, its the little vent on top of the dash between the instrument cluster and the windscreen, sounds like two bits of the dash are rubbing together.....

the pics were taken on Eaglesham Moor, near the big new windfarm

Ah, I was thinking more along the lines of the moors behind Paisley (Gleniffer Braes area) but very similar looking...

Sorry, can't really help with that creak :(

I just bought the exact same spec, except mine's the 2.5i :) Can't drive it til Friday though :headbang:

Ps. Canon 350D... Nice camera 8)

Hi and welcome, probalby not the issue but check the strut braces arent loose by the bulkhead, it's not unknow and could be your problem.

Nice photos gazzamill - you're right that's where I took my one crappy photo (on my phone as battery on camera had died). Planning on going out next weekend with my new DSLR (bought off this site!) and taking some better photos. Take it you live around Eaglesham area - are you planning on going to the Strathaven classic car show next weekend?

Wow! What great photos. What camera did you use? You did a great job on the paint work. What did you do to get it looking so great, I've just done a simple wash and polish.

All the best with her m8.

Sean

thanks for all your kind comments (about the pics and the car)

@srhutch tighted the strut braces, there was a bit of turn but not much and it hasn't made any difference - the creak is still there :headbang:

@ jimmypop I live in Clarkston, just down the road, not going to Strathaven, driving down to the lakes with my wife this weekend - the girlfriend was busy

@ seanodwyer I recently bought a second hand canon 350 dslr, and it is absolutely brilliant, i've just started so I got lots to learn....
as for the cleaning after much research here and elsewhere the routine was wash with fairy liquid; clay bar; wash with glossworks shampoo; 2 coats autoglym sr polish; chemical guys gloss M sealer, 2 x chemical guys xxx wax. All done by hand, took a long time (about 6 -7 hours!) but it looks amazing with just a wash now :D
