Another one of those "shall i get something else" moments

I don't know about you, but i have these from time to time, and they always end up with a "nah, i'll keep the Z4, xyz might be a bit better, but it's not £30k better"

2012 Audi TTRS S-Tronic (quite like the idea of the auto box, probably more economical as a daily hack, haven't had a 4wd car before)
2008/2009 Porsche 911 (997 Gen 2 C/C2S) (would really love a 911 at some point, but it's impossible to find one that isn't black/grey/silver - i want a bright yellow one!)

Hmmmm. I am sure it will pass.

I always have these, there isnt any harm in considering & sometimes its nice to experience different cars.

I used to hold onto cars for years but now seem to be changing between 1 to 2 years!

I bet the TTRS S-tronic shifts our TT-S S-tronic goes well enough, i would like to own a 911 one day though aswell. :)

The TT-RS is an absolute monster! Maybe not as "entertaining" as a Z4M if you like your oversteery moments but it's nigh on the quickest thing point to point in its segment. It will outdrag a Z4M all day long but depending on the driver might not be quicker on track. Great soundtrack too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5_fu9Ahcmk and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXmcy1zfkFI

I'm punting the Z4 for an E92 M3. It's "i say this with tongue in cheek" a far far better car overall.

Sure the Z4 looks great but the M3 build, the road holding, the gbox and power thumps the Z4!

Worth a shot!

My M is my daily driver, and does 60 miles a day, every day, 5 days a week, so an e92 M3 is going to cost me a whole pile of extra cash in fuel.... not really an option at 16-18mpg

I only get 16-18mpg my M in town; got it down to 12 in the snow traffic. Ironically the E92 isn't any worse which points the finger firmly at how inefficient the S54 is!

Ali, I fear it will be worse, if your Zed gets 16 the M3 will get you 12. You have been warned! As you know that's coming from someone looking to do the same thing as you. :headbang:

I get 25-26 out of the Z on my commute. The M3 will get 17 under the same conditions, so you will be deep into single figures if you are getting 16 in the Z

The V8 is really really really thirsty!

How about a high mileage (relatively) e46 CSL?

Seen them below £20k, and then you've got the Z4M pointiness, S54 power, CSL intake & exhaust wail and 4 seats!

My Z4MC gets 27-28mpg on it's 80mph+ (about 85-90mph indicated) commute from Liverpool to London (18mpg around town or 15mpg around Central London) and has an all time average of around 26mpg. The e92 M3 I had for a while (when the Z4 was getting some bodywork fixed) did 23mpg on the same run, and went as low as 13mpg around town.

Been looking at that option too but.....

I wouldn't trust a low end high mileage CSL, too many SMG horror stories and history of being driven hard.

Certainly a special and great drivers car which will hold value for sure but for the extra power they aren't actually really any quicker. My experience is that a modified M3 or Z4M could be made 'as good' fairly easily for less money.

Still that noise...

The TTRS makes a nice noise, especially for a forced induction engine. I think it would probably make a decent daily driver with a 420bhp remap and a few other mods.

Interesting thread, swapped my z4mr for a e92 m3 & own a TT-S but the TT RS really appeals, I say sod mpg & enjoy the power! :driving:

The benefit of turbos has always been the tuning potential, it's makes an interesting dilemma :)

also when you take weight into account, the e92 M3 and the Z4M are pretty much neck-and-neck up to about 120/130mph
Correct! My friend has a e92 M3 and I have a Z4M.... We ride a lot together and this is a fact... But there is more in a car then its horsepower and acceleration times. TT-RS is fast, but the driving experience and is not my taste and less fun then in other "slower" cars.

If I could only have one car and I really needed to replace my Z4M for something to carry more then 2 people, then it would be a e92 M3 (probably a manual) for me a this time of my life. But my Z4M is my second car and I have a 325I as daily driver. Love them both and at this point would not want to change anything... :D
