(another) oil consumption query

I bought my Z midway thru October this year, so had her for a couple of months, done just over 3000 miles in that time, mostly because it took until now for the new car novelty to wear off, wouldnt usually have done so many miles in short time. anyway, today is the 3rd time ive been prompted to do a 1L top up by the computer, now i've read numerous times how these engines will use quite a bit of oil... surely not this regularly!!

it feels like i only put a litre in a couple of weeks ago. she is not due a service for another 7500 miles, is there anything you guys think i should look out for, i've physically checked around the engine bay and underneath just in case i spot any leaks, nothing. not noticed any obvious issues with performance, smells, but i do notic a fair amount of smoke steam on a cold start, goes away when driving and up to temperature though..

grateful for any advice or pointers. cheers

the steam as you word it out of exhaust i wouldn't worry about, unless your coolant is going down

is the steam colored to suggest its burning oil?

If there's not a bad leak then your cars burning the oil, it's either a gummed up ccv system (likely) or a badly worn engine (unlikely)

If u have the m54 engine then my suggestion would concur with robs, that ur ccv system is the culprit.
Replaced my ccv with cold climate version and have noticed oil consumption go down significantly, though not entirely.
If m54 engine, detach ur dipstick and see if its gunked up. If it is that will indicate the condition of the rest of the system...

On the plus side keep going & you have managed a oil change without visiting garage  :P
No idea RE the CCV but worth looking into quality oil if you do decide to have a service early , Millers being a good option & after my son changed his car to it he has had zero consumption whereas previous he was topping up half litre every 1500 miles

What miles is your car currently on & what grade/brand oil being used ?

1L per 1000 miles ? Before PVR replies. I'll just ask, Are you sure its not an Alpina you're driving ? :tumbleweed:

I say steam coz its not coloured nor does it have an odour. incorrect terminology perhaps but pretty certain its not burning oil coming out the back.

To Smartbear + Chris_D. cheers for the responses, ive heard about ccv problems will do a bit of research... she's just gone over the 60k mark and I've used Castrol edge.
