Yep another o2 sensor failed, getting pissed off now if another problem by Sept or so the cars got to go for something more reliable at least. :x

02 sensor isnt the cars fault, its the part failing..... and these are a common issue on a magnitude of cars.... ive replaced 3 on my tt. my z4m is still on its original units desite the extra heat passing over them, the z4m is a very reliable car imo....

I'm sure iv read somewhere that using Super Unleaded prevents this problem and super market fuel can also cause it................. if your using Super Unleaded then ignore me.

If not then it may be worth a go :)

Couldn't you say that about anything that fails? I accept that this item is not manufactured by BMW, however providing it was an OEM part originally it is fair to say the model of sensor was selected in the design phase. That said, it is clearly correct that anything can fail at any time, and so I'd not be selling a car purely on this basis.

Another wallet busting week sees the sensor changed but what a difference, smoother than ever now, pulls cleanly from low rpm no hesitation or stutter at all-bring on summer!

Mine went a week or 2 after I bought it, very annoying, but as said, unfortunately common on a lot of other good cars too

Reminds me of the 2 Brand new Leon cupras I once had...the 1st one was a cracking car but kept breaking down due to Seat/Audi only changing the failed coil pack at a time(rather than all 4)....as it had the 2002 audi/ tt engine that had the serious coil-pack issue...while my 2003/2004 model year replacement model had a full on bodykit, etc and revised coil packs...didn't break down once in 3years..so sometimes just bad luck.

Interesting about the super-unleaded - mine has drunk nothing but super for 40,000 miles and no failures

Would be interesting to see a poll

I agree (well since my engine change 65k miles ago). Not had any rear springs either.

Maybe the car was never meant to be a Sunday driver/garage queen and is being petulant :poke:

For my information, the O2 sensors which usually fail are the ones fitted to the exhaust manifold (headers), p/n 11787540167, or the ones mounted after the cat (p/n 11787837564 + 11787837565)?

I can't remember where i read it but it was listed as a fairly common problem in general on the M (and many other cars).

I don't even think it has to be ran on Super Unleaded continuously just periodically i.e. a month every year or so to prevent it happening.

I may be completely off but it may be a contributing factor or the cause :)

Its the short stop/start journeys that do the car no good, the sensors are sooting up with the rich mixture I assume,my driving habits will have to change to keep this screamer at the front of the pack.
