Another Newbie - E85 3.0si

Hello everyone, posting as a newbie to the forum and to Z cars but not to BMW by any means.

My name is Josh, I'm based in London and I'm the lucky purchaser of Ash's Ruby Black 3.0si and quite excited about that, even though it was sort of an impulse buy, I decided on it over a 986 Boxster S.

I don't have loads of plans with the car yet other than doing the north coast 500 in the Autumn (hopefully) and probably doing some detailing work on it and some preventative maintenance.

I've had lots of lovely BMW's in the past. My current daily is a 2018 640i xDrive GT, absolute beast and probably one of my favourite BMW's I've ever owned.

Look forward to participating in the forum and hearing about people's experiences. I plan on doing most of my own maintenance work on the Z4 so I'm sure this forum will be a great resource. Hopefully some fun meets once they are permitted again too.

Thanks,
Josh

Hey Josh,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new and awesome purchase - I'm sure you'll get a lot of joy from it and it will probably replace your 640i as you favourite Bimmer (not that I'm biased at all😉).

It's also great to hear that someone else from London joined - I think there's a couple of us here on the forum. Maybe we can all have a little get-together once the rules have been eased a little!

Hi Josh,

As another newbie, good to see you here. Lovely looking roadster and the wheels look great. Just need to persuade myself that black's not practical where I live.

Hi and welcome to the forum Josh.

That's a good looking z4 you have bought, just enjoy trying to keep Ruby Black clean!

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone! I pick her up tomorrow so am hoping the weather is good enough for a little top down action.

And yes, Mr. Tidy, having owned mainly carbon black and black sapphire BMW's, I know the pain in keeping this paint clean. Admittedly most of the time during lockdown the car has been absolutely filthy, at least on the exterior, as it lives in an underground car park, just like the Z4 will, and washing your car in London is never easy or cheap. Though I've always had the mantra that a filthy car that you wait to wash properly is better than a clean car with swirls galore!

I also have been a fan of optimum no-rinse on my previous cars, the 6 GT is a little to big to do a no rinse treatment on but I think the Z4 will be the perfect size for my OCD. I just got delivered a new bottle of Dr. Leather, Multi purpose cleaner and no rinse so even with the previous owner's OCD I can take it to the next level over the next few weeks!
