Another 'new' Z4 owner!

Picking her up tomorrow (Sat) ... supposedly fully serviced! Why don't I trust garages selling second hand cars? Used to be easy checking for fresh oil with a dipstick but are there any easy ways of telling on a Z4 - 08 reg coupe? Whatever ... I'm looking forward to collecting it immensely even if I have to take it straight round somewhere else for another 'service'! I'm going to be given a 2 page checklist with dozens of boxes ticked ... anyone can tick boxes! What should I be looking at?

Welcome mate. I'm a recently new member too, picked my car up on Wednesday and i've spend most of my time driving it or reading the forum since then :)

Hope it's all ready for you tomorrow, I was like a kid at Christmas on Wednesday morning :)

I would say that taking the filler cap off and looking at the oil should show if its been changed or not.
 
Only driven it briefly ... seemed ok without a full road test. I'll probably replace the run-flats when the time comes with normal tyres, some tyreweld and a prayer! Perhaps someone can recommend what tyres I should get?
It's July 08 registered and 32000 miles. Black ... wanted silver but couldn't fnd one.
More concerned about what I should be checking when the salesman, who would have exchanged his children to do a deal, starts waffling about how much was done at the service and shows me a piece of paper with ticked boxes all over it! I'll accept the car anyway but not without giving him some grief then probably book it in with the guy who's been fixing my racing cars for years and also services the road cars. He'll tell me if it's been serviced or not but by then it's after the event! ... so, any suggestions as to what to check?
 
Check if he has not warmed the engine up prior to your arrival. It must be a completely cold start, or otherwise you will not hear the tell-tale lifter tapping, which can be expensive.

As for the tyres, plenty of threads over here. Vreds or Falkens for everyday use seem to be the general consensus.
 
Ok ... so collected the car today ... checked the air filter, which was new (and easy) and checked the oil on the dash gizmo ... all ok so assume that the service promised had been done ... maybe I shouldn't be so sceptical.
Very happy now having driven it some 60 miles on both country roads and motorway ... only criticism would be about road noise from the run-flats, awful on the M27 which is mostly concrete slabs or something - lousy surface anyway, but fine on good smooth asphalt. Are ordinary non run-flats noisy? They're pretty fat tyres so maybe they are. Also the ride not as harsh as I'd expected, even with the run-flats. Glad I chose an si SE though ... I can only wonder about the ride quality of a Sport or an M ... have your fillings out in a flash! Had a job to find one as nearly everything on the market was a sport and I could only find one si SE at the right mileage and price (for me!) ... Hadn't realised that it's got an M steering wheel ... knew about the sequential box with the lever and the flappy paddles ... looking forward to playing with those. Best feature - bags of effortless grunt. Worst feature - 3 of the wheels have got a little corrosion on the inside of the rims, couple of inches wide, which I'd missed before ... I'd thought it was dirt in there and instructed the garage to clean them ... one of them is fine ... suppose it will be a trip to the ally wheel refurb man! All in all though - very happy! I can feel a trip to the South of France coming on already!

If I could pull one straight off the pics stored on my laptop instead of tiddling around with Photobucket, whatever that is, I'd post some ... in the meantime you'll have to use your imagination ... it's a black shiny coupe! :D
