Another new arrival in the Pond house

Never, ever thought I would be buying one of these!
Picked up this afternoon. Not too bad actually, apart from being a bit weird inside:

Congratulations Andrew.

Mrs Tidy bought an R56 Cooper at the launch event in 2006 and they are great to rag around (when the owner isn't with you).

Not a bad looking car. I can’t believe you actually made a decision

I do think John Cooper would spin in his grave if he could see how his name has been reduced to a simple sales gimmick and plastered over everything. I used to live about 5 miles from his garage in East Preston and the 'proper' Mini's he had in there were awesome machines. Now it's just a sales badge.

It's not mine. I just paid for it. Daughter's first car. Spoilt brats we have brought up these days. I never got bought sod all! :(

It was assembled at Cowley, so within earshot of where my kids were born too (JR hospital Headington Oxford).

Ah but that's the legacy of the British car industry being so utterly shite in the 80s and 90s. BMW bought the rights to all of it for a fiver IIRC (or was that the Chinese with MG)?
Still keeping Cowley and Swindon in jobs, though. I would bet those sites would be crappy flats now if Rover had remained.

We had one of those for a few years not many problems.
In case you don't know these use a bit of oil and bmw think that 1litre every thousand miles is acceptable. Luckily ours wasn't quite that bad but was still about 500ml every thousand miles.
Rear calipers seize up, can be changed quite easily and cheaply.
Thermostat housing is plastic and is made of 2 parts bonded together. They split apart and dump all yge coolant when they feel like it. Ours done it twice.
Not great on fuel for such a small car.

Some time back we had a liquid yellow one of these. A great little car, a real hoot to drive apart from the terrible ride quality thanks to those dreaded runflats! I am sure your daughter will enjoy it.

She hasn't passed her test so it is purely for accompanied experience ATM. She is having paid for (fecking expensive) lessons aswell.

Thanks Nictrix. Useful to know.
The engine is very 'ticky' at standstill. I thought it sounded tappety but from a bit of googling it may be the fuel rail and just inherent for the engine. Not sure yet.

It needs one front tyre desperately (so it will be two) and all the brake discs have seen much better days. The a/c is short of gas (I can't even sort it myself as don't keep refrigerant anymore which is annoying).

It needs a new aerial, I think it was a 'whippy' from what I have seen online! :o ATM it has a 4mm or 6mm piece of stud sticking out of the base. Oh and one of the keyfobs has a dead battery. I'm hoping using it in the ignition may bring it back to life.

I will start to have a good look hopefully tomorrow PM. I just hope it's not a dog, mechanically. I've seen many that are!

Just remembered it developed a slight oil leak from a crank seal that ruined the clutch.
Engine out job to replace the clutch after removing pretty much the whole front end.

Sounds like they’ve kept their well known British ‘reliability’
